| Length of auditions OK, folks, the online scheduler (and audition telephone hotline) went into effect this morning at 10 am EST, just as planned. I was fortunate enough to get the audition date my D wanted. I noticed, however, that each time period had a number in parentheses near it, designating (I presume) the number of slots available. So, if a kid has an audition for (for example) 2 p.m. on such and such a date, how long do you think that kid should plan to be there? I ask because our plan is to travel to NYC that a.m. on the train, have her do her thing, and then travel home again that evening. Discounted tickets are possible if they are booked ahead .... |

| My D. also scheduled her date yesterday. I was just reading the confirmation email and it stated that students will be seen in the order that they registered. D. said there was no opportunity to select an advanced dance audition. I had read on this site that Tish has 2 separate dance auditions. Did we miss something or has that changed? |

| Chelle,
Tisch has done away with the optional/advanced dance auditions. I think my D's year (she is currently a junior at CAP) was the last year they held these. Just so you know, should your child attend CAP21, on the first day of each year, they have dance placement auditions and within any given grade/year/class, there are FOUR levels for EACH discipline of jazz, ballet, and tap.
NMR....I think there may be a morning and afternoon group and within that group, once they hold the introductory session, they audition kids in the order they had registered, as chelle mentions. So, since you were an early bird yesterday, I imagine your D might be near the beginning. Once the info. session is over, and if she is near the beginning, she can leave once her turn is over and you may not be there that long. It was slightly different when my D auditioned as she auditioned on the optional Sat. dance audition day and so dance was in the morning, then the info. session, and then each had a turn to audition, but my D was the second to go in her audition room (they had two simulataneous audition rooms going on at one time) and so for that part of the day (not counting dance, which is no longer), she was not there that long at all. I will make a guess that your D will be done before 4. If you called right at 10 yesterday, like we had done, I venture to say your D will be near the top of the list for her audition room. |

| I agree with Soozie. There was no dance audition last year. My D would have loved to have one, since dance is a strength for her. But it was no longer available. As to time, we scheduled her audition the first morning they were available, for a Friday afternoon audition on the last NYC audition day. The information session was first, there were three auditors presenting, and then the kids were divided between those three auditors to audition. My D was first in her room to go, and we were out of there very quickly. We were done in less than an hour including both the information session and her actual audition and interview (in the audition room). She was accepted with Saturday in the Square invitation, so I don't think it mattered that there was no dance audition. She is not attending however, choosing Elon instead (best choice she could have ever made---for HER!!). |

| Thanks, soozie and nydancemom! Yes, I admit to being online a few moments after the audition scheduler went live and scheduling my kid's audition. I was remembering the story that blaneyboy told about waiting a little longer and then having his kid audition for NYC in LA. (Of course, at the time, I didn't know that he was closer to the West Coast than, like us, the East Coast, so that sounded extreme and something to be avoided! ) In any case, my guess is my kid will be the first to go at her 2 p.m. session, so it is probably safe to buy train tickets to take us back home at around dinnertime. My D is so so excited about auditioning for Tisch. She noted last night that the confirmation email they sent instructed girls to wear either low heels or bare feet. Is a simple dress or skirt still OK; in other words, can they just kick their shoes off? (Sounds good to me ... the older I get, the more I loathe heels. How I ran around during my 20s and 30s in spike heels, I will never know ... the resilience of youth!) Good luck in auditions, everyone. I cannot believe the moment of truth is coming so soon. (By the way, guys, how soon do kids find out if they have been accepted to Tisch? And remind me when the Saturday in the Square invite comes for the chosen ...) |

| Tisch seems to prefer low heels or bare feet in the auditions. That was kinda different for my kid as she was wearing what she normally would wear to an audition and that included heels. So, once they said that in the little session before individual auditions, she kicked off her shoes and went in barefoot. I sorta died at the time but that's what they asked for and so you do it! NMR, a skirt, dress, or nice pants all work. My D wore a skirt to some auditions and dressy pants to other auditions. For NYU, I recall she was in nice pants with heels, but no shoes in the audition room in the end! You definitely can make a train by dinner time to go home. NYU sends out admissions decisions on April 1. The Saturday in the Square invitations come out around ten days prior to that. However, you can be admitted to NYU/Tisch and not get the Saturday in the Square invitation.
On my D's audition day, there were only two audition rooms, not three, like NyDanceMom's D had. But I think this was due to my D auditioning on the Dance audition Saturday (which is no longer offered) and that audition day was limitted to 18 total applicants and so after the morning dance auditions and the subsequent information session, they were divided into two lists of nine and each list auditioned in separate rooms. I imagine there are more than 18 auditioning on other audition dates that are not the dance ones, which were limited in number (all were also trying obviously for CAP, which is not true on another audition date necessarily). |

| sooz, I noticed when I was registering my kid (I promise you she would have done it herself, but she was in class at high school during the time the scheduler went online and live!), I noticed there was a number in parentheses next to each time offered. The one next to the time I selected for my D said (16), so I am guessing that means that they would allow 16 kids in that 2 p.m. timeslot. |

| Hi all, if anyone here is dying to get an audition date for NYU Tisch in NY in early Feb but got closed out, I happen to know that an appointment slot just opened up! My D ultimately decided not to apply/audition there, and we just canceled her audition appointment. |

| BrownSugar, I don't know if Tisch still does this, but in past years, they have had a waiting list for auditions, so the slot has probably already been filled. |
