Nyu Cap 21

hey, i was wondering if anyone has seen a tisch musical?? what are they like?? i've honestly heard mixed reviews of the program. how often do none cappies get into the musicals?? how often do cappies not get into the musicals?? how many ppl get cast in the musicals vs. how many tryout?? what kinda musicals does tisch do (ex: contemporary, classical, smaller, larger)?? how many a year do they do??

i have heard rumblings that nyu's program isnt as good as others (not as comprehensive). what are other's opinions on the program. i love the location, and they have some pretty impressive alumni. but i just sometimes hear bad things.

I have a couple of really good friends in the program right now. I've heard nothing but positive things about the program.

As far as their musicals go, Tisch's mainstage musical this year was Sweeny Todd. If I remember correctly, there were twenty Tisch students in it, and 18 of them were from CAP21. Tisch tends to do more contemporary musicals, and there are rumours they are planning on doing another Sondheim show next year.

CAP21 does a couple of smaller, black box musicals each year. These are for 2nd and 3rd year students, and in the past they've done shows like Seussical, Into the Woods, and How to Succeed.

I did the CAP21 Pre-College program this past summer, and found the teachers to be very impressive. Many of them have tons of Broadway credits and they know what they are talking about. One thing I liked a lot is that they all teach the same thing (so you never get conflicting critiques) and a lot of times material will cross over between classes.

From what I've seen and what others have told me, Tisch is still a great program, definately one of the top in the nation. And how can you beat studying theatre in New York?

My d is attending the Cap 21 Pre-college MT this summer and already has gotten room assignment ot Twentysixth street. We would love to hear your thoughts on the program, living arrangements, safety and such if you could. She did CMU pre-college last year.Thanks in advance.

Nawlinsmom, I asked my D what she knew of 26th St. and she sent me these links from discussions by students who lived/live there. Her impression is not a positive one from what she's seen and heard but she hasn't lived there so she thought she'd provide the opinions of those who have. Sorry it's not more positive.

alwaysmom, Thanks for the referral. Although the info is not great news for mom and I perhaps it will broaden the experience of the starving artists life living in NYC. Fortunately no one said directly it was UNSAFE, which is my biggest concern although living in New Orleans is not on a smaller scale. Thanks for your time.
