I believe transfer applicants hear later. I am not sure when. It could be May 1 but I know it isn't when the freshmen applicants hear. You could call and ask when transfer decisions go out.

Thanks soozie. They told my daughter April 1st at her audition so we didn't question it. I'll call in the morning.

Hmm....well, if they told you that, go by what THEY told you. I only know that my D's good friend transferred into Tisch (they have been friends since childhood) and I recall that transfers heard later that year (2006).

I will follow up here as I double checked for myself because I knew I had read this before on their site, besides the first hand knowledge with D's Tisch Drama transfer pal. TRANSFER APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY APRIL 1. ADMISSIONS NOTIFICATION IS BY MAY 15. I hope that helps.

APRIL 1, however, IS the date by which all freshmen applicants are notified.

Susan, should kids who are regular decision applicants coming out of high school in June already have heard yes or no from Tisch? I know of a kid or two who auditioned and has not heard anything. Is that odd? Also, one of my D's friends got the invite to Saturday in the Square and yesterday got his acceptance letter, but it did not include any financial aid packet/letter, etc. even though he apparently did fill out the FAFSA and applied for financial aid. Do these things sometimes come separately? Or would no packet at all mean no financial aid at all?

These questions are difficult for me to answer as I have NO inside information about NYU. I only know what I have observed either in my D's admissions cycle there or what has occurred with students of mine or with those I read on here, for example.

It seems to me that since you said you got your packet on Thursday and another friend got it yesterday, that they have been mailed out but mail delivery varies. I think if someone doesn't hear within the next few days, they should call to inquire. These sorts of things are best asked directly to the school.

As far as the FA packet.....was yours in with the acceptance? I can't recall that part three years ago. The student who got an acceptance but not a FA letter in it (IF you say that yours came in one envelope) should call the FA office and ask if they are getting a FA award as it wasn't with the acceptance package and others have said theirs were in one envelope. I would not assume anything without asking directly. I am sorry but I do not have the answer for you on this.

Sorry to bombard you with NYU related questions, soozie! Yes, my D's FA information came in a packet with the official acceptance letter and all kinds of other beautiful and colorful brochures that make one want to rush to the school and enroll. (Well, that's how my kid felt, anyhow, and I can see why!) Her friend was away on spring break so I think his acceptance may have arrived on the same day as my D's. But he called her, confused, because he could not find any financial aid letter/brochure at all in the packet. I will tell her to tell him (does this remind anyone else of that telephone game we used to play at parties? ) to call the school.

S did not hear anything today. The other two students from his school who applied have heard, one accepted a few weeks ago, one rejected Friday. It's hard enough to wait, hopefully this does not extend out too much longer. Tisch is the last program we need an answer from so he can make a decision. Are there others who have not heard?

mest, I know of at least one student from the West Coast who applied and auditioned and, last I spoke with that person's parent, had not heard a word.

soozie--Thank you for double checking on transfer letters. We called as well and were told that the first letters will go out to transfer applicants May 1st with some not receiving anything until the 15th or a little later.

blank slate....and that is what I initially thought when you originally asked about this. I know my D's friend got into Tisch as a transfer at the beginning of May and that the notification dates are not the same as for freshmen.

A friend of mine also didn't recieve any financial infformation with her offical acceptance. She went to talk to the office of financial aid during saturday in the square and were told that they did not recieve any aid. That she could get $600 through work study, but that's it.
I would reccomend calling the financial office.

Number of Acceptances

Does anyone out there know how many kids auditioned this past year for Tisch? Also, how many were accepted and how many they are looking for in a class? One last thing, how many branches does Tisch have? Cap21 - ETW ?
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Also, is it safe to assume that these MT programs are more competitive for girls than boys? (at least in terms of number of applicants, not talent level).

Black Suits - during the info session, I believe they said that Tisch's Undergraduate Drama Department anticipated that they would see something like 1300 kids. Even though they did allude that a large number (majority) of those kids specify CAP21 as their first choice studio, I don't recall an actual number. I do know that CAP usually offers admission to approximately 80 kids to yield a class of about 65 freshmen. I believe that most other studios are considerably smaller in size.

The Tisch School of the Arts actually consists of 5 divisions, with 14 different departments and programs:
1) The Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television
- Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film & Television
- Department of Photography and Imaging
- Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP)
- Rita & Burton Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing
2) The Skirball Center for New Media
- Department of Cinema Studies
- Moving Image Archiving & Preservation Program
3) The Institute of Performing Arts
- Graduate Acting Program
- Department of Dance
- Department of Design for Stage & Film
- Department of Drama, Undergraduate
- Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program
- Department of Performance Studies
4) The Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music
- Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music
5) The Department of Art and Public Policy
- Department of Art and Public Policy

I think your question is probably more geared towards Tisch's Undergraduate Drama Department. There are a total of about 1400 students divided up in 8 primary studios and 6 advanced studios:

Primary >>
- Stella Adler Conservatory
- Atlantic Theater Company
- Collaborative Arts Project 21
- Experimental Theatre Wing
- The Meisner Extension
- Playwrights Horizons Theater School
- Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute
- Technical Production Track

Advanced>>
- Classical Studio
- Experimental Theatre Wing Transfer Track
- Stonestreet Studios Film and Television Acting Workshop
- Playwrights Horizons Practicum
- CAP21 Transfer Track
- Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute Practicum

I think it is safe to say that more girls tend to apply for MT programs than boys. However, and people may call me on this , I do think that most of those boys are actually very, very talented, and so, even though there may be more girls, this inbalance in reality may be very relative. As a result it will likely be just as difficult for a boy to get in as it is for a girl, if that made any sense.

Hope this helps .
