Little Background: I was a lazy student in HS with a 3.4-3.5 UW GPA and no real EC's besides some community service outside school. Didn't care what college I went to and I ended up at Pace University because they gave me a pretty nice scholarship.

Problem: I don't like Pace. I like the students, but it's a 3rd tier college and it's too easy academically. I was pretty depressed early into the semester and skipped my classes a lot. But I did end up with a 3.8 first semester, and it looks to be the same this semester, maybe higher. I also got into the honors program, which is a plus.

I'd really like to transfer to Tisch as a drama major after my sophomore year. I could get involved in theatre productions and different clubs this fall along with (hopefully) landing an internship this summer. That along with a strong audition (which I'm confident about), keeping my grades up, and a strong personal statement I should have a good shot (right?).

Anyway, what's REALLY holding me back though (ASSUMING I did get accepted) is their transfer credit policy. I'm taking 28 credits this year, and hoping to take anywhere from 31-36 next year. NYU is supposedly notorious for not taking credits, could this pose a big problem for me? I'd love to attend Tisch, but I have no interest in finishing college a year or 2 late.

Any advice/opinions would be great. I'm kind of anxious to make a decision because if I find NYU's too big of a risk, I'm gonna transfer out this year to attent Fordham LC this fall. But again, I'd really rather be apart of Tisch's drama program. I just don't want to go there and find out that I lost a year or 2's worth of credits that I have to make up.

I'm not positive if it's the same now (you could probably explore the Tisch website and have a look at the required curriculum), but when my D was at Tisch, majors were required to take two years (four semesters) of primary studio and one year (two semesters) of advanced studio. So, no, if the system is the same now, it would not be possible to complete the major in two years. Have a look at the Tisch site and call them for definitive answers to your questions.

I know of a junior at Tisch who transferred from Morehouse this year into drama...he's completing two years of his primary studio during the school year and he's doing studio in the summer to complete his degree. I know of another junior who is a double major within Tisch who just started his drama requirements his junior year and he's doing the same thing. Call and talk to the Tisch Drama department...in my experience anyway, they're always really helpful.

You will have to graduate late, unless you do courses over the summer. But, DO talk to the department.

Spazboy - If you are still on the thread, can I ask you if you are a theater major at Pace or just a regular BA? My D auditioned for several MT programs and didn't make it in and had a similiar GPA to you and is now considering going to Pace just for the location and scholarships as an undecided BA.

She was also accepted at UMass Amherst which is our state school in theater where the stats seem to be higher; but the school is massive and rural.

if not a theater student, do you have opportunities at Pace to perform? Also - it would be interesting to know if you decide to transfer how that process goes.

Also, if you could pass along any of the details on general student life at Pace fun/not fun. The campus looked kind of claustrophobic to me. Although you are in a big city it seems to be contained in sort of one building.
