production photos

NYU doesn't put videos of their shows online. I have seen numerous posts on the forum regarding videos of other schools' productions.

However, I have also seen photos from other programs and so I thought I would share some photos that are online from two things my child has been involved with very recently that might interest others who are looking into NYU.

One set of photos is from the recent mainstage musical at Tisch, Only Children, which was a premier of a brand new musical.
Book and Lyrics by Michael R. Jackson
Music by Rachel Peters
Here are the photos on Tisch's site:

For those interested in A Cappella, NYU's N'Harmonics are this year's Northeast Champions for college a cappella and recently were in the International Finals at Lincoln Center, in which they placed third. My daughter is the musical director of the group and personally won the award for Best Arrangement at Lincoln Center. Here are photos of their performance and awards at Lincoln Center:

If you are coming to NYU next year, think about auditioning for this group.

Susan, thank you for posting the production photos. They are very well done. Coincidentally, I have heard from two different individuals who are in the theatre biz in the city that this production was excellent and that there is a growing buzz that people are interested in investing in and mounting another production. Emma Griffin is a terrific director, and pairing her with Rachel Peters seems a surefire way to success. I wish I could have seen it. S looks beautiful, as always.

AlwaysAMom, thank you. My D is also aware that there is some buzz that there could be another production mounted. She absolutely LOVED working on this show and found it very challenging material and also a chance to originate a role. They made a cast recording. Also, Rachel and Michael took the leads up to Boston (including my D) to perform with some professional actors a "concert reading" of the show recently. We'll have to see what develops. She definitely loved working with the writers of the show and the music (really an exciting experience as they were constantly developing and changing things) and also with Emma Griffin.

Unrelated to this but I know you always seem to know people in RENT....a few nights ago, my D played piano as an accompanist (along with other musicians) for members of the RENT cast who were performing '80s songs at The Cutting Room. Having been a RENT fanatic in elementary school, it was rather cool. She made good contacts with them and exchanged emails as they were interested in maybe working on other future things with her. Going to school in NYC has involved some exciting experiences and networking, let alone paying jobs in the field. I'm just sharing this since you likely know some of the RENT cast as you always seem to! They were great to her and were interested in what she does as they came to realize she wasn't just a pianist.

Susan, I think the Rent kids must be making these Cutting Room/80's music gigs a regular thing. I know they did one a couple of months ago and maybe due to its success, they're having an encore performance. My guess is that it was probably a benefit performance, as these often are. And the Rent casts have been known for 12+ years in the city for the money they've raised for many charities. Many of the castmembers, probably more so than any other Broadway show, have been musician/songwriters as well as actors. They often have gigs at The Cutting Room or Joe's Pub to showcase their own music. S would fit right in with this gang! I'm not sure who in the cast was at this performance but I know that at the one in March, the MD was Jared Stein, who was the MD for the Rent tour in 2006 that J & J were in. He was also instrumental in J(from Tisch) being cast in that tour. Jared recently was hired to be the MD in the Spring Awakening tour. He's a very talented young man.

AlwaysAMom, yes, there had been a previous Cutting Room gig by the cast from RENT last month but my D was not a part of it that time. She was the only new person this time. I know that the bassist was the bassist in Spring Awakening. I am not sure she mentioned Jared to me. However, the other pianist, a friend of hers who is a graduate from CAP21 who was pianist on the Wicked Tour and who she thinks is likely going to be the Asst. MD for the Spring Awakening Tour, had asked her to do this gig. It was a benefit but she was paid (well). And yes, many of the cast members are singer/songwriters and talked to my D about perhaps in the future her playing piano for them or back up singing for them (once they heard she is an actor/singer) and they exchanged contact information. My D is also a singer/songwriter and has her own gig in about ten days at another venue in the city of her own original songs (singing and accompanying herself). Anyway, she had fun and actually was offered by one of the people there (I forget who she said....maybe it was Jared?) to accompany tomorrow for auditions for some show but she had to turn it down...she has too much on her plate at the moment including being an organizer and performer in an original street theater piece in NYC today with a theater company she formed with other Tisch Scholars as she is into combining theater with social activism. She also has an N'Harms gig soon at Joe's Pub. But she would be happy to do these jobs when she has time or when she graduates to earn money and so meeting all these folks and networking was worthwhile. Besides, the cast of RENT were all cool people and like I've told you, she was extremely into RENT as a child doing several independent projects and papers on it. I don't know if you know these cast members but you always seem to know about RENT stuff and so that's why I am sharing it with you.
