AP Policy for Tisch?

Does anyone know the AP Policy for NYU's Tisch School of the Arts? I have a few AP's under my belt, and am structuring my schedule for next year, except I don't want to have to take courses I won't even get credit it or vice-versa... not take the courses I can easily do well in and get credit.... PLEASE HELP!

Matty, here's a link to some information for you. At NYU, including Tisch, to have any chance of getting credit for AP, you must have a score of 4 or 5. The thing at Tisch is that you have so many classes within the drama department, both at studio and at Tisch, that your electives will be limited anyway. My D is double majoring and found that advanced credit is more limited than it would have been had she been taking a more 'normal' course of study, rather than drama.

What you'll need to do is to speak to your academic advisor once you're at Tisch to see what will or will not help you. The best advice, if you have not yet been admitted to Tisch, is to take the most rigorous schedule possible at your h/s.

Ap

My daughter took Spanish, English, and Calculus AP courses. Tisch will accept all but the English AP. Does this make any sense? What the heck can you do with CALC in musical theater? At least English has to do with the written/spoken word!! Makes no sense to me, but .....whatever.

rossji, no NYU college accepts the English AP. It's not just a Tisch thing. I'm not sure of the reason.

tisch has some weird issues with ap credit and early graduation. somebody asked about it on the live journal group and the reply was ...

"okay the AP thing: I only had 8 which is no big deal, however if you come in with alot its something to talk to your advisor about so you can plan for it. They give you until May of your freshman year to decide whether or not to accept credit for all your AP's, so you've got time to do that kind of planning.

Honestly, it's likely not to be a huge deal unless you go in with like, 24 credits or something insane like that. But then you can always get around the graduating early thing by minoring or double majoring, or, the old fashioned way, just don't take one required class until your last semester of your senior year. The AP's only work against you by moving you more quickly towards having fulfilled all your requirements. So hold out and don't take that last required theatre studies course until you're ready too and you should be fine.

I also have to point out that it's a myth that they make you graduate early. They'll never make you graduate early. They'll just cut off your financial aid as soon as you're technically able to graduate. Which is essentially the same thing unless you're fabulously wealthy, but there is a technical difference."

Hi, All I can tell you is Tisch accepts most AP credidts and wants you out early IF you choose to use your credits. My S. graduated in 3 years because of his AP credits, and a summer class in Florance. It saved us 40,000 dollars! yeah!
