Stella Adler

Okay I know I have been annoying I'm sure, but I just got my financial aid packet from NYU and I got a full ride to NYU so I can't turn that down. Which means I choose NYU Stella Adler. I have been asking random questions throughout other threads about Stella Adler, but I thought I would create this thread for any other people who got accepted to this or for people who know anything about Stella Adler. Like the primary classes and stuff like that, anything Stella Adler related. I also had some questions about the dorms, which would be best?

Congratulations on your full ride, Yasha, that is terrific!! !

There is only one other person I know of on CC who was placed in Adler this year besides my son. Both she and he may be attending other schools.

Adler's full curriculum is on the Tisch website, as you are probably aware. Is there any way you could visit the studio and talk to faculty and students, and maybe sit in on some classes? That would be the best way to learn more I think. Or find current Adler students on facebook and ask them questions.

Actressmom's daughter is an Adler student, and she has posted about how much her daughter loves the studio if you look up her posts.

One thing I learned about Adler today on another thread is that they do not just teach the Adler technique but other acting techniques as well. Good to know.

We visited the two freshman dorms, Rubin and Hayden, and liked them. They are both converted hotels from New York's gracious past. They have pretty wood-paneled lobbies, and "private" bathrooms of the old fashioned type. A lot of people think Hayden is best, mostly because of its nice dining hall.

There are other residential options for freshmen, depending on cost and whether or not you have a meal plan, etc.

For what it's worth, my daughter goes to Stella Adler independently of NYU and she loves it. It's a full day class on Saturday - 10-6 which is not easy to commit to but she did it for two sessions this year and has willingly given up other activities in order to attend. She's been in other acting programs but this is her favorite. She's a HS Senior by the way.

Congratulations on such a great accomplishment - full ride!

I have many close friends who were/are in Adler. On the whole, I've heard nothing but positive things. Shakespeare is a big part of the curriculum as is voice and speech. My experience in watching Adler actors is, regardless of what I may think of overall performances, they always have a very good grasp of what they are saying, which is huge. Also, in third and fourth year, they have A LOT of perfomance opportunities. Hope that helps!

Hey! I'm in the same boat you are with the free ride to Adler. At first the whole 9-6 class 3 days a week seemed kind of crazy, but I'm actually pretty stoked for it now. September can't come fast enough!

My Daughter is in Adler, She will be a senior and she just loves it! She is just finishing up Adler in LA Summer program. Its all TV and film and they had a showcase. She is now moving to LA because of her wonderful experience and all the contacts she made, I think you will be very happy at Stella Adler.
