Athletes and Theatre

Is it possible for athletes to be involved in theatre, or is the time commitment necessary of groups too much to overcome?

It's not impossible, but it takes some good scheduling on your part (but then again, I feel like that is the case with all athletes and theater students when it comes to keeping those activities balanced with everything else). I recall a theater major/captain of the soccer team student who graduated in '09, and I believe he tended to only be in major roles in the spring semester.

I hear Oberlin's athletic director, William Roth, has departed after just one year in the position. Any word as to the circumstances?

Read the Oberlin newspaper interview with William Roth from April. Not sure if it is fair to read between the lines but there were some criticisms raised by the author or the article.
Are you certain this is definite?

June 21 article in goyeo.com notes Roth resigned, and that Natalie Winkelfoos taking over on an interim basis.

The April interview in Oberlin Review is interesting. Roth does come across as a bit defensive, but no suggestion that his resignation was imminent.

I took a look a few days after this was raised on June 22. As of that time, his page was still up on the Oberlin web sites, including the Athletic Department web site. His LinkedIn profile indicated no new employment (and, in fact, it hadn't been updated to show he was no longer the AD) and no press release speaks to his departure or his hiring elsewhere -- apart from the press releases noting that there's a search and the appointment of an interim AD. There's certainly no great rush for the parties to distance themselves from each other or disavow the relationship. I pried enough to conclude that there's nothing gossipy or juicy here.
