I'm applying early review for vocal performance at the conservatory. Though I'm usually very confident, lately I've been worried sick. Does anyone know the acceptance rate within the conservatory? I'm sure it's dismally low, especially amongst voice majors, but I'm a guy, which always helps.

I did a summer program at the conservatory this past summer and the faculty seemed to enjoy working with me very much. A student advisor told me there was no way I wouldn't get it, although the statement might have been made just to appease me.

Any figures for the conservatory?

Sorry for the late reply - just noticed this old thread. I have heard that the overall admissions rate at the con is around 30%. I do not have breakdowns by department, but I think it is somewhat lower than that for male voice majors and quite a bit lower than that for female voice majors. Your odds improve quite a bit if you get past the prescreening taped round and are called for a live audition.

OK, I dug the real figures out from http://peacock.adm.oberlin.edu/ir.html under the Admissions tab in the Electronic DataBook.

For 2006:

Conservatory Applications - 1132 Freshman, 93 Transfer, 40 Graduate
Conservatory Admissions - 311 Freshman, 20 Transfer, 7 Graduate
Conservatory Enrolls - 138 Freshman, 13 Transfer, 5 Graduate
Double degrees (included in above numbers) - 40 Freshman, 1 Transfer

So the overall con admit rate for freshmen is 27.5% and their yield is 44.4%.

I did get invited for a live audition (I'm auditioning Saturday). Seeing these numbers, the prospect isn't so terribly bleak...

For Oberlin, we sent in the screening CD by Dec 1st. When can we expect to hear one way or another, if my daughter got an audition? Other schools we sent CDs to had the date on their web site (Dec 22-24).
