My D's GC called and spoke with the AO from our area yesterday. The message relayed to me is that they are still working through acceptances, and HAVE NOT started calling people off the waitlist.
I promise this isn't a hoax. My friend was called last weekend (on friday actually) and offered a spot from the waitlist. They said that she had until monday to decide, and she chose to enroll. Perhaps they're starting very slowly- I also believe her high school has a very good relationship with Oberlin so perhaps she got called before most other people. Good luck all!
I am playing field hockey at Oberlin next year so I am on the team's mail list, and the coach just confirmed that one girl who planned on playing had just been admitted from the waitlist and was coming. It sounds faraway but the coach/team have been in constant contact, and they included her name/email. So it seems pretty safe to say the waitlist's active. Good luck to all of you!
Sounds like a very specific case of needing a field hockey player. Well, nice to know someone else has gotten in but if they actually overenrolled as the article above indicates, I don't see much hope for a big move on the waitlist.
My daughter just sent an update of grades to the admissions counselor for our area and he said it is very unlikely they will be going to the waitlist. I think they would have to lose quite a few student to other schools over the summer, which is unlikely since they are reportedly overenrolled.
SS1955-- do you think it is kind of crazy that they are not yet making any statements to those still on the waiting list about the status of the waitlist? If they are truly so overenrolled I wish they would send a letter saying just what your area admissions counselor told your daughter. In any case, thanks so much for posting this update you got!
