Mid Year Transfer

Since the waitlist chances are not looking so hot as of now, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with being a mid year transfer to Oberlin and if they had any advice on how to do it successfully? All that Oberlin says on their site is that they give preference to those who have completed one year of undergrad work already but that they do accept mid year, freshman transfers as well. Any thoughts?

Transferring in as a midyear student is obviously a lot harder if you're a freshman.I'm currently a 1st year at a state college in Ohio, and I applied as a transfer for next fall.I was told by many people(some on CC)that my chances were slim to none of getting in.My first semester,I had A's and B's and was active on campus.I got accepted this spring so I'll be a 2nd year student next fall at Oberlin. This was my 2nd time applying,so that may have helped me out a bit.Although Oberlin does give preference to students that have completed one year of study already, they will accept you if they see that you're determined to be an Obie and can truly bring a lot to the campus the following year.Good luck!

With a question like this, I'd call admissions. Just a general FYI -- waitlisted students are totally qualified for Oberlin. If we had the space, you'd be in.

Another question, if someone applied as a mid year transfer and was rejected, would they still be eligible to apply as a regular transfer?

Hello again!
I don't see how it would be a problem to apply again as a regular transfer.I considered applying during my 1st semester as a freshman but was told by admissions that I would have a better chance of getting accepted as a regular transfer.I think if I had applied and gotten rejected,I would have applied again anyway, whether or not I was allowed to.My understanding is that in exceptional cases will they let the rules slide. To find out for sure if you're eligible to apply as a regular transfer, contact the admissions office.Oh and thanks for the congrats from before.
Hope to see you at Oberlin in the future!
