Housing notification date?

When do we get to find out our room assignments? Today was the last day for application submissions.

I read somewhere that students would be informed in late July

Last year, co-opers found out on June 23. (OSCA also sends a note to people who entered the lottery but didn't get into a co-op, telling them how to join the waitlist.) Res Ed kids found out starting around the first week of July.

quaere: Are you back home in Vermont? How does Oberlin compare to Middlebury, in the minds of your old Vermont high school classmates? I'm curious how they might have reacted when they learned where you were going, with Middlebury right there in state.

What type of comparison are you looking for? Many of them had never heard of Oberlin; some considered both and chose Middlebury; another, like me, considered both and chose Oberlin. No one asked me why I would go out-of-state to Oberlin with Middlebury right down the road (though a couple of people asked why I didn't go to UVM).

I just find it interesting that the LACs are not well known. I never considered LACs when I applied to college. In fact, I'd never heard of Middlebury until a law school classmate mentioned that he graduated from the school. But I had heard of Oberlin, even way back then.

Do potential co-opers find out June 23 by email, mail or is the notification posted on Presto? Daughter is in a very rural locale and will want to know how she can access this information.

Argh, my response got deleted! Let's try this again

studiomom: they're posted online. If you log in to the ResEd housing form and scroll down, there's a building and room number listed. Clicking on the room number shows you what kind of room it is and who else is living there. OSCA also sends out letters, which take longer but should arrive by the end of June.

Plainsman: It's interesting, because while people on CC focus on LACs vs. universities, people at my high school were more focused on local vs. out-of-state - in particular, out of New England. No one was confused about why I'd go to an LAC, even one they hadn't heard of. They did wonder why I'd go so far away. So, I didn't get asked "why an LAC?" or "why Oberlin?" ... more like "why were you looking at schools in Ohio?" (A friend of mine who went to Stanford got similar reactions: "Wow, that's really far away...") No one seemed too concerned about the school's actual reputation, just the distance.

Where/how specifically do students find out their housing assignment on line? Presto? Somewhere else?

Log in here. At the bottom of the screen, you'll see a purple header that says "200909", followed by a bullet point that says something like "Room: Main Campus Harkness 201". (if you see Harkness 201 when you log in, there's a problem, 'cause that's my room!) The room number is a link that will show you room details and roommates. If there isn't a link with a room assignment, it's because it hasn't been posted yet.

Thanks -- you are always so helpful! My daughter was able to access the link as you described from her WWOOF farm up in the back woods of Canada and she is so excited to have received her first OSCA choice. So, OSCA is posted for those of you who have requested a coop.

I checked and mine isn't up yet, though I did request a co-op as my first choice... perhaps this means I got a bad lottery number and didn't get in?

Unfortunately, it probably means you didn't get into housing. You may have gotten into dining (if so, you'll get a letter soon). If you really want to live in a co-op, definitely stay on the wait list; there's a fair amount of turnover at the beginning of the semester, so you still have a chance of getting in.

quaere- I assume you meet didn't get into coop housing and not that you didn't get housing. Correct?
