I'm currently a first semester freshman at CUNY Hunter College. I applied ED II to Oberlin last year and was rejected. I would've liked to have written this off as simply a manifestation of God's apparent hatred for me, as my grandmother passed away shortly after receiving the news, but I'm told the two incidences are largely unrelated.

MATH - 680

US HISTORY - 750
MOLECULAR BIOLOGY - 750

High School Rundown:
All Honors and APs
Accelerated Math Program
Accelerated Science Program
Literary Magazine Editor and Contributor
AP Scholar with Honor Award
Advanced Regents Designation Diploma
82 GPA (The killer.)

College:
Tentatively involved in Literary Magazine
Majoring in "The Arts" (I have something of a portfolio, for possible inclusion in my app)
Background in electronic music composition (submit?)

As my GPA accurately reflects, I was not a serious student in high school. I slacked off quite a bit and assumed my scores would compensate for the dismal grades. I've since realized the errors of my ways and have been working unreasonably hard to redeem myself at Hunter. It seems to be paying off; I've received nothing below a B+ in any of my courses thus far. While the self-satisfaction may in fact be "the greatest reward", I'll settle for an acceptance letter from Oberlin that's got my name in all the designated places.

I'm too tired to phrase it coherently, but suffice it to say that this is (and has been for some time) the only school I really see myself at. A recent visit to the campus helped reaffirm this.

That covers just about everything I know. Well, what are my chances? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also, for clarification, I intend on submitting the app in March for Fall 2010 admission.

Dear Abe,

Not gonna lie, you sound awesome. Oberlin uses your high school grades as your college-readiness predictor, not your SATs. Hence, the issue.

Suggestions:
1. Speak with an admissions counselor at length! They visit NY really regularly.
2. Make clear the fact that you and Oberlin are the One True Pairing and meant to be together forever for keeps and you would do so well here, etc. Fit is really important.
