edited December 2010 in Occidental College
I thought I would get this thread going for the class of 2011/2015. After visiting all of the colleges our son was interested in, he decided yesterday that he wants to apply early decision to Occidental. We are thilled! Hope it all works out for him. Are there others out there applying ED?

I am also applying to Oxy ED! Do you mind telling me your son's stats?

After receiving some additional information concerning a department my son was very interested in, he decided to apply regular decision. He is not applying anywhere ED, but two schools EA. That is great that you decided to do ED!

I'm applying RD. I absolutely adore Oxy and it was originally my top choice (It's now tied with Dartmouth and Vassar). My mom keeps saying } can do better and I have to keep reminding her that Occidental is indeed one of the top liberal arts colleges in the nation and it's Int'l Relations program is world renowned AND it's in L.A. which is perfect because I LOVE acting and the city.

Hahaha it turns out ED is pretty intimidating! Yeah, I'm going RD now too... Haha. It's a lovely school and all, but then I thought to myself what if I get accepted to UCI or UCLA? There's only a slim chance I'd get accepted there but it's still a chance! Plus most of my friends are going to UCI, so yeah...

If I get accepted to Oxy though, I'll still be super excited!

We agree with you that ED is scary, but it is great for those who really know where they want to go. Two of my nieces applied ED to Stanford and Dartmouth and both got in. How nice to have that decision done in December! Good luck with the UC schools. We looked at some of them, but being out of state that tuition is SO high. We would be THRILLED to be accepted to Oxy. Hopefully, that will happen.

I'm applying to Oxy ED round 1. I find out this Wednesday! I am so nervous. Anyone else here applying ED to Oxy? I don't know anyone else who is so I have no idea what my competition is like.

I want to apply to Oxy ED II so bad, but I'm afraid the financial aid will come out with less award money and I'll have more of it distributed in loans :(

I really want to apply RD and I think I'm going to...
buuuut I have a not so amazing SAT score and Oxy doesn't accept January SAT scores.. BUT my score is still in the 75 percentile soooo maybe?
I really want to attend though! Their International Relations program? AMAZING. :D
    annnnd it's in LA.

For the past few months, I've been practically obsessed with Occidental and in the past few days, the nervousness has gotten almost too much to handle. I can't focus on anything but Oxy's website, college review sites, the course catalog, and my mail slot. Even today, when I knew mail wouldn't come, I checked 5 times. Someone really needs to assure me that I'm not the ONLY one going crazy about Early Decision notification!

erinclaire11: Same with the obsession! I would've applied ED if I weren't in such dire need of Financial Aid :( and now I've done so much researching I'm now feeling antsy about whether or not I can get in!
I'm crossing my fingers for you this week!! Good luck :)

It's the WORST, huh? We work so hard all our lives for this very purpose, and admissions people get to decide our fates in 10 minutes...Scary.

So true! I have to wait until late March/April 1st...and I'm not the most patient :P

@ erinclaire11: I am freaking out right now too! I want to go so badly. I've had a hardcore obsession w/ Oxy and its Diplomacy and World Affairs department since freshman year. No joke. I can't believe in just two days I will finally know my fate! I'm glad I'm not the only one freaking out.
    Good luck!

Will it be coming over snail mail? Cause on one hand, I'm glad to avoid rejection from a mass email, but on the other snail mail takes way longer. I WANT TO KNOW THE EXACT MINUTE THEY DECIDE MY NEXT FOUR YEARS!

I think they email them. But I'm not sure. I SERIOUSLY cannot stand waiting any longer.
