Transferring to OSU..GPA question

kmlsukmlsu Posts: 45Registered User Junior Member
I would love to transfer to Ohio State. I am in a community college now. My GPA is around a 3.1, which I am nervous about. I am afraid my GPA may be too low, and it doesn't help that I am out of state. But I am hearing mixed reviews. Some say it is easy to get in as a transfer and some say it's not. Any help would be wonderful!

update.. according to The Ohio State University - 2008 .transfers need a 2.0/4.0.. but i am sure that is the minimun requirement. even though a 3.1 is low, i am still going to give it a shot.

You should be able to transfer in, no problem.

thank you for all the input! i'd love to speak with someone who is an OSU transfer.. specifically someone who is an out of state transfer but i can't seem to find one.

I'm an out of state transfer to OSU. I had a 3.6 GPA from a state school in FL. I'm a non-traditional student (23 years old) with an associates degree. I'm transferring to Fisher to study finance. I'd be happy to answer any questions.

BTW, I think you're fine with the 3.1.

Hey, thanks for the help! I would definitely feel more at ease with a 3.6 lol... People are giving me many different answers.. trying to stay optimistic though. I actually gave OSU a call yesterday. They said they don't accept just based on GPA and couldn't give me any definite answers. They said their minimum requirement for transfers is a 2.0. They told me they've accepted people with as low as 2.0, to as high as a 4.0. It just depended on when I had applied. Plus I am transfering from a community college, and out of state. They acceptance rate is high but I heard that's because they have a deal with other schools in Ohio. Who knows though.

*well I should say the acceptance rate for transfers is high. Basically they made it sound like a transfer student has a better shot than a student right out of high school.

I think thats the case for most schools. As a transfer you won't have nearly the amount of competition you'll find as a high school student. If you have over 30 credit hours they won't even ask for your SAT's or High School transcripts. Of course, both of those were on my college transcript, but nonetheless.

i had good SATs. it's a shame it isn't concidered since i do have over 30 credit hours

You can still send them if you want. They'll consider them, but your college work is by far the most important part.

Hey, I am an out of state student . I have around a 2.7 or 2.8 and 30 Credit Hours, do you think I Have a good chance at getting accepted ?
  • StirFry101StirFry101 Posts: 12Registered User New Member
That depends on what major you're attempting. Anything business I wouldn't try without a 3.0 at least. The others it's worth a shot. It may help to do one more semester and really shine. Although my GPA was relatively high, it may have also helped me that my grades trended upward. I actually started with a mediocre year and dropped out, returning 3 years later and getting a 3.9 GPA since. If you can show improvement and maturation, you can get into many, many schools.

Oh ok, thanks for the help, So do you think that if I got a 3.0 I will have a good chance of getting in...I do want to do buisness. Also, do you think there isnt a chance I would get In with a 2.7-2.8... thanks for all the input..

That is my situation, except I have a 3.1 GPA. I am nervous about getting in. I want to do communications but even if i have to take classes there before getting in to that department thats fine. just hoping to get in. I am applying for the spring semester.. (or i guess winter, since OSU does quarters i believe..)
