If i remember correctly on the BIG LIST Shauna created it listed OCU as a BFA school. I was surfing Broadway World and someone posted this message: Hi..I'm a musical theater student at Oklahoma City University which is truly one of the nation's leading MT programs.
I know many of you have questions about OCU and I'm more than happy to help you learn about our wonderful school. here are some basics:
A private university...located in Oklahom City (you'd be suprised how many people ask!)...receive a BM in MT..you can also go thru somewhat similar training and receive a BFA in Music...very selective music program...check audition requirements here: www.okcu.edu/music...first auditions are November 18th and 19th and you can learn of your acceptance by December...talented students can receive music talent scholarships...brand new $38 million dollar music school opens in 2006 making it the premier music facility in America...MT students study legit voice and often cross over to appear in our operas.

This person said you receive a BFA in music or a BM in MT. Can someone clear this up? I know you received a BA in MT at Oberlin but I thought OCU was bfa.

There are plenty here who are very familiar with OCU. But just looking at their website (which YOU really should do if exploring this school for yourself), their degree in Musical Theater is a BM and it is in the Music School. There is a BA in Theater Performance in the Theater Dept.

The person who posted on the other forum you referred to, is, I believe, our very own CC poster, OCUMTInfo. He is a musical theater student who works in the admissions office. I'm sure he will see your post soon and answer your questions.

The OCU musical theatre degree is a BM under the school of music, but you would not find this to be substantially different from a BFA at many other schools. Based on our summer experience there, we think it is a top notch program!

The Big List does have OCU listed as BM degree. I would hope I got it right, as I'm now going to school there. :-)
