Senior Showcase

Does anyone have any information on OCU's showcase for MT students? I've heard they do one... is it in New york? Do they bring agents to Oklahoma?

It is my understanding that they do not have one. The class of '09 is in the process of trying to organize one for their class, but I don't know any details.

Clover25,
My D is graduating on Saturday (yeah!) OCU does not have a senior showcase. They do, however, bring in people throughout the year for the kids to have masterclasses with....so they do get exposure to professionals....but no official showcase. Another thing they did this year was offered a 3-day workshop in NYC during spring break. It was sponsored by the NYC OCU alumni and the kids who attended (any age, not just seniors) were given the opportunity to work with agents, directors, performers, etc.

There hopefully will be showcases organized starting with the class of 09 or 10. Kelli O'Hara is trying to get OCU to organize one. I talked with her when she was here, though, and she said that even if the school doesn't organize one, we should rent a space in NYC during spring break of our senior year, and invite as many agents as possible to come see everyone.

My D missed the spring trip to NY, but said the kids who went had a great experience and several auditioned for shows for the experience of doing it. She's saving her money for next spring!

Hi all!

At the Parent part of Freshman Orientation, Dean Belcik announced that they WILL have a showcase this year in New York. No details but it will be happening in 2008!

YEAH!

Wow,
Thanks Mikksmom for sharing this information. I am so pleased to hear of this news!!! OCU is on the top of the list for my MT D and I personally was disappointed that they did not have a Senior Showcase, previously.
Plesae keep us informed if you hear of any more details! Thanks!

OCU Showcase

I think there are two different things being talked about here. One is the week long workshop in NYC for any OCU student held during spring break and hosted by the OCU-NY Alumni group. My D attended last year....and thought it was wonderfully informative.

Secondly, OCU is organizing a senior showcase in NY for May 23(?). Senior and grad students auditioned to be included and 14 students were selected to participate. The adjudicators for the audition came in from NY....the students were not selected by the faculty. The showcase is being directed by someone from NY (Munigioli???) and they will have two showings in May. If this goes well, they will likely continue to offer a showcase for seniors in future years.

How large is the senior class, and how many graduate students were in the running for the showcase?

Sorry, I can't remember the exact numbers but I believe there were 30 or so students who auditioned because I remember thinking that half were selected. I don't know the breakdown of undergrad and grad students nor do I know the breakdown of boys/girls.

Prior to the auditions, the kids were told they weren't looking for a certain number of students to participate...that they would be chosen based on the results of their audition and their 'marketability'......

The adjudicators also provided detailed written feedback to the kids that ranged from their song choices, monologue choices, stage presence, their clothes, etc.....very helpful.

Hi, 2DsnMT. It was nice to meet you this weekend. I asked my D about the showcase and she told me Spring Break, so I guess she misunderstood my question. Sorry for the wrong information. Is your D going to do the showcase? I know she graduated (again) in December, but I didn't know if she was still eligible to participate. It would be nice to have first-hand information of the experience after it is over! And I hope all goes well so they will be able to do it again next year!

Hi musicmom,
Nice to finally meet you, too. We really enjoyed A Little Night Music on Saturday night.
Yes, my D was chosen. She is eligible because she was a student in the fall. I hope all goes well, too....it is a big undertaking and expensive. I'll post more as I know it....
