Razorback - Thanks for the update. I can't recall knowing someone from North Little Rock who goes to OCU (and the girlfriend's name is not familiar), but OCU seems to be very popular for Arkansas students from several cities.

To MTPOP:

From Cinderella and her mom (OCU summer 2004), congratulations to her Prince on his role as Perchik in Fiddler. We can just hear his beautiful voice now. As you know, Cinderella is still a junior in high school, and is actually doing Cinderella again, this time in Into the Woods, but asked that I send her best to your son and all her friends at OCU, whom she hopes to see when she auditions there next year. Patty -

Thanks for that sweet post and those encouraging words. Our S could not be happier than he is at OCU. Please be sure and contact us next year when your D is headed to auditions. S will want to see Cinderella again - such an amazing young woman! I wish you all were closer and we could see her perform again. Well, maybe we will in a couple of years!

ocuMTinfo--I know you're super busy right now, but if you get a chance: Since there's a cut policy thread going now, can you address this issue regarding OCU? Does OCU cut students from the program in any way? Thanks! We appreciate your knowledge of the program. Hope all is well with Pirates and Fiddler! This is the mom of "Ariel" from this summer. She plans to see you in Pirates when she's there!

This is not ocuMTinfo, but a parent who went through orientation week with my freshman son. We were reassured as parents and our kids were told at meetings that they are the group that the school wants to graduate. They were chosen because OCU has confidence in them and they are expected to do well and complete their program.

Hi..sorry for the delay in response but I couldn't log in for some time!!

It is correct that OCU does not, in any way, have a "cut" program where a student is evaluated in ther 2nd or 3rd year and, based on talent, can be removed from the program.

OCU believes in the potential that is inside of every accept music school student. That potential and talent may not come out until their junior or even senior year. How is cutting someone in their freshmen year being of any help or assistance? How does the school know how the student will develop in the coming weeks, months or years?

I'm sure there have been situations where students have been released at OCU due to grades or other non talent issues. But there is no such talent cut policy at OCU.

This is good to know. Maybe you could share this on the cut thread as well.

Hi all...Yes..they have been working hard and it has turned out beautiful. It is quite a powerful story even without all the sets, costumes, orchestra, etc. I haven't got the chance to work with the cast as much as I would like due to "Pirates", but what I have seen is amazing! I look forward to meeting many of you this weekend! Thanks

I saw "Fiddler" stripped Saturday night and was very impressed. What a talented bunch of young people--the entire cast was strong. Having been involved behind the scenes a few years ago with a community theater production (seeing dozens of rehearsals and seven performances), I thought I was immune to the emotional story, but Hodel and Chava still made me cry! It is amazing how the audience hardly noticed the lack of set, costumes, etc. Overall great show. I can't wait for the next one.

Congratulations to ocuMTinfo - Fiddler was a great show. What struck me was how well the show was cast. And I agree with musicmom - the lack of costumes/sets was immaterial.
