I've never been enrolled in the US school system but have the equivalent of a high school diploma. I am now OLD (40s) and a new permenant resident to the USA (married an American).

I am trying to gather info on doing an online degree for radiology/radiology technician. Is there a list available of accredited online schools for this degree anywhere that I can look through ?

Next question is: I have no idea what the differences between degrees are, and programs too. So when I am searching for the info I need .. I'm not sure which degree I should be looking at to one day be able to operate an x-ray machine! Anyone know a simplified diagram that would show what different degrees are and which degree applies to the field of study I'm interested in ? Explanations will be very appreciated as to where I start.

I think that your best bet would be to go to your local hospital or to go on the web site of your local hospital.

If you went on the web site of your local hospital, you could e mail someone in the Radiology Department, and ask them what kind of training they look for.

To the best of my knowledge, a "Radiology Technician" is a trade school course of study and certification. I would assume that one could do that through a Community College.

Whenever you are planning a course of study that has a certification behind it, it is always a good idea to look up who governs that certification.

You might desire to go to the International Student area of this (College Confidential) web site in order to learn more of your past high school work and how to obtain your transcripts and all of that.

X-Ray technologists need a lot of hands on training, so I don't think you can do the entire degree online-- you may need to move to the site of the school. Look under Allied Health

One thing that might concern you as far as cost. Most colleges have instate and out-of-state tuition rates. Instate means you need residency. You need to actually live in a state for a year before starting school to get the cheap rate.

I don't know quite what you mean by not knowing the types of American degrees. The major degree types are: certificate, Associate, Bachelors (of either Arts or Science), Masters (of either Arts or Science), Doctorate (lots of diffrent Doctorates, including M.D., Ph.D, each with their own criteria). Different types of fields have their titles like: CNA is a certified nurses assistant.

Radiology degree (or Sonography) is the name of the degree you are after.

I agree that 40 is not that old.
