i know some of the best undergraduate Actuarial Science colleges are UPenn, Georgia State, Georgia, Wisconsin, NYU, Temple, Drake, Iowa and Waterloo! Is that correct? Does anyone know which ones are the most recognized or with the strongest actuarial science program???

Since no one has responded here, why don't you repeat your question on the college search forum? I know there is someone there with a resource that shows the best schools for particular majors and often helps people out.

Is strength of program important to being an actuary? Just asking -- I thought it is a question of passing all the tests. My son started this process by self-study -- I don't think his school even has actuary science. But then he decided he wasn't that interested ...

actually... i dont know! lol But I am really interested in knowing what are what colleges have the best Undergraduate "Actuarial Science" and "Statistics" programs.
To be an Actuary, I dont need to graduate in Actuarial Science.... And one of the majors that would be really helpful if not "actuarial science", would be "statistics".
Do you anyone who would know about these undergraduate programs??
    Thanks.

No, I don't. My son was just considering taking the actuary tests as a backup career, but decided he really wasn't interested.

Like I said, if you post on the college search forum, you will get your question out to more people. I don't know how many cruise this particular place ... I know I only do so rarely.

You might also look for actuary organizations, message boards, etc. on the internet.

The only other thing I can think of is to look at the web sites of the colleges you do have the names of and check out the pertinent departments. See the courses offered that would interest you, any special programs, the qualifications of the professors, and the like.

basically, one of the good things about being an actuary is that it doesnt matter where you get your degree from; the career is in high demand as long as you can pass the test. OSU has a good program. ALso, Columbia is adding a new masters program in it.

There are some discussions of act sci programs at http://www.actuarialoutpost.com/actuarial_discussion_forum/forumdisplay.php?f=107 , but I agree, it's more about the tests than about the degree.

It seems to be a relatively easy career to advance in...my mom was an economics and math double major, then got hired by a big firm. She took the tests once working there...they apparently give you days off work to study for it! But she also has several coworkers who have done actuarial science at school, and that put them in a good position as well.

There is a comprehensive list of the best programs. It is called the Centers of Actuarial Excellence and they are recognized by the Society of Actuaries. Very hard to get into, and its the best of the best for actuarial turn out.

Here's the link SOA - Society of Actuaries
