Ok, so I'm hoping to be a HS Chemistry teacher, so obviously I'm going to major in Chemistry. But I have a question about the high school courses I've taken.
The Smaller Learning Community that I'm in requires Integrated Science. Is it going to hurt me that I took Integrated Science instead of year-long courses?
It really depends on the school and how they handle the integrated classes. In my school, integrated anything is code for lower level, while at a private Catholic high school I almost went to the Integrated Science classes are very rigorous and well respected. Now, is the Integrated Science just one class or the entire science curriculum?
Also, (forgot to mention this) if you have doubts about how colleges will look at the integrated science class(es), you could take some Sat IIs in chemistry and other sciences to demonstrate that you have a good understanding of them.
Freshman year you take SS&C 1-2, sophomore year you take 3-4, and junior year you can choose to take 5-6. I took 5-6 Honors.
The "Smaller Learning Community" that I'm in is a college-prep SLC, so I'm assuming it's pretty good, but they're also changing it to not include integrated science anymore (not sure why the change). So really it's kinda up in the air.
