What's a good minor to go along with a BA in economics major? A political science minor or a biology minor? I planning on going to law school.

Political Science without a doubt if you're planning on going to law school.

ok, so a econ major with a politcal science minor is better than a bio minor

Political Science without a doubt if you're planning on going to law school.

Not so good, law school admissions are constantly seeing pol sci majors, so a minor is NOT going to make you stand out.

Business would be the best minor in this situation, especially if you decide to get out of law and go into business.

I don't think a political science minor will get you anything, unless if you are really interested in the topic. Bio minor is good if you are interested in the subject or want to go to medical school. Actually some of the best minors for econ would be math or statistics or computer science, as far as job prospects go.

For law school, it doesn't matter at all. Just get high grades.

Philosophy will help give you some of the critical thinking and analysis skills needed for law school.

It would be best to speak with your advisor and see what you already are going to have classes towards.

Biology could also be helpful in law school/as a lawyer if you wanted to be a patent attorney. So that is a bonus of biology.

He's majoring in economics and he can gain all of that through economics.

I still say business is the best. It's the most marketable, especially if you go into corporate law or become a legal counsel for a company.

If you enjoy international economics, political science would be a good minor. International Political Economy, a subfield of political science, is rising in prominence.

My S is majoring in Economics, getting a B.A., and he's minoring in math. He figured he's taking a lot of math classes anyway (for an accelerated Master's in Economics program) that he'd be one or two shy of a math major anyway. He plans, ultimately, to apply to law school, unless of course he changes his mind ... LOL, but he's been told by several people that he respects that math's great with economics for a lot of different areas.

What kind of law are you interested in? I would choose a minor in relation to that.

Law schools like Statistics majors but I don't know about minors. Might be a good accompaniment with econ.

I am also an Econ student, going into law. Statistically I have read that; philosophy, mathematics, and economics are best fields of study for future law students. They have the highest scores on the LSat. As far as law schools go, they look for students that have background critical thinking, moral ethics, cost benefit analysis. I think any of these fields of study would be good for a minor.

I think the business minor would look the best, plus knowing the fundamentals of business are practical in anything you will do. I don't think a biology minor adds anything to getting accepted to law school. And, I would stay away from math or even stats if you know for certain you don't want to go into graduate-level econ.

Economics is already pretty business heavy, I'd say. If you enjoy business classes and material, shoot for the business minor. If you really like biology and want something a little different, take biology. I don't think it matters that much to law schools at all. Just decide on your minor based on what you like more.
