Boston University is a wonderful school, for many, many things. However, I would never think of it as a great place to go for International Affairs.

If you're interested in IR, going to school in DC is a distinct advantage. A large percentage of IR students at Georgetown, GW, and American intern part time. Someone going to school in, say, Connecticut might have one or two DC internships, whereas many DC kids will have three. You also get lots of interesting and influential adjunct professors, a good environment for networking, and career centers with the right sort of contacts for IR people.

Besides the three top DC schools, look for schools with strong study abroad and language programs, and dedicated IR majors. Three off the top of my head are Bowdoin, Middlebury, and Macalester (sp?).

That is the entire study from which the rankings in the Foreign Policy magazine come from.

It was a study done by professors at The College of William and Mary and I believe they used it to identify what are considered the premier IR schools. I believe that the professors then used the rankings to examine and analyze the curriculums of the top IR schools in order to adopt a rigorous and effective IR curriculum at W&M.

W&M International Relations | Undergraduate Curriculum

That's the curriculum they came up with.

Here's something I never really understood. Schools like Harvard are on the top of the list for undergraduate International Relations. However, looking at their list of majors, they don't offer it. Or International Studies or Global Studies. How does that work?

Edit: I went through the past posts more carefully. What does PA and PP mean?
