English/Pre-med or both?

I will be attending University of Iowa next year, a school that is fairly good in both subjects. I really enjoy reading, writing, and English. The problem is that I really don't want to be a doctor. But my parents think that the only way someone can find a stable career (that does not involve teaching) is by studying either engineering or pre-med. Their pressuring me makes me want to pursue pre-med even less that I already did before, and I'm not sure what to do. I know I still have time to decide, but I took a lot of AP classes in HS and should be done with gen eds by 2nd semester. Any help would be appreciated...

thanks!

if you keep juggling like that, you'll just end up confused and frustrated. seriously. one rule of thumb i learned is, whatever my mom tells me to do, don't do it. i know, this sounds rebellious and whatever. but i'm not really trying to implant that on you. it's just from experience that whenever i do whatever my mom tells me, i end up wishing i hadn't listened to her. instead, i wish i had just followed my own plans straight through and i wouldn't have been so confused and miserable. Iowa is a very good school for creative writing. the top for MFA anyway. hey, if you're any good, you might get paid for writing. but you wouldn't know till you tried.
