| Language major: French or Russian?
I'm going to NYU and planning to major in economics as well as a language, but I'm not sure which one of these languages I should study. Does anyone here major in one of these and have any thoughts on it? |

| I think Russian is considered more difficult, generally. That said, you should follow your passion in what you study. Learning a language is an act of love. If you do it for any other reason, you'll give up quickly, because it is too difficult. [Unless if you NEED to know one or the other, which I assume isn't the case.] | |

| Learn the language that you're more interested in. You're never going to learn a language as well as you plan on unless you really love it or HAVE to (as kenf said).
But if you're going to go into econ (and possibly get an MBA or go to law school?), I would choose Russian. There's more options there. | |

| As people above have already said, choose a language that you LOVE.
There isn't a "better" language out of the two for somebody who is majoring in economics, contrary to what anyone may say. Yes, Russia is emerging in the world markets, but don't forget that France has been there already for ages. | |

I have exactly the same problem as you do!!!!
I can't decide which to study..
I'm already fluent in both Chinese and English.. and an additional critical language such as Russian would definitely help my future careers, but French, man, french is a beautiful language and is much easier than Russian. Beside, fluency in French is necessary if I want to study French philosophy and their fancy theories. Also, lingua franca in international diplomatic communities is french, too. | |

| Choose the language you enjoy. You'll be more motivated to learn and use it, and honestly you don't know if you're going to end up using it... so you might as well enjoying learning it! | |

| I believe French is more used in business. Also I could be wrong but I think that a lot of companies or organizations like the Olympics use English, the home language and French as the official language. | |
