A completely useless major?

I've been told majoring in Economics is a completely useless if your not going to a Ivy League. True or False in your opinon?

If true, what majors are more rewarding?

False. You can do a lot with a degree in Economics.

False. There is indeed a whole world outside the Ivy League.

Totally false, my brother has a major in economics and his starting salary was about $52,000. However, he did have difficulty finding a job mostly because economics is a broad term for a major. Think about it; why would you hire an economist? What would he/she do? It's a major that many do enjoy, but try specializing in something else as well (like a language) to set yourself apart from the rest of the crowd.

That could lead to a career in the business side of sports. Working in the front office of a sports team.

No degree is useless.

Economics is very broad & open to a number of jobs besides being an "economist"

Be sure to take a marketing course & then market YOURSELF in the job search.

A broad business background with the understanding of math behind the "business stats" is needed in every employment field.
