| NSA Stokes' 2012
Hi, I recently applied for the NSA Stokes Education Scholarship and I was wondering if any of you have applied. I read another thread on this site about it but that was from 2005 or so and I wanted to get some more recent feedback, like what are some "stats" for this year?
Anybody else applied?

DS has applied and has received a 30 day and a 60 day update thus far. According to prior years' threads, no one will hear about selection for further processing until mid February.

Does anyone know if they actually really take into consideration whether or not you're a minority?

Is NSA committed to diversity?
NSA is committed to effectively managing diversity as a business imperative. Our threat environment and our customer base are becoming more diverse, as is our employee base. In order to meet our goal of making the National Security Agency and Central Security Service more aware of itself and its role in national security, more agile in its ability to respond to challenges and opportunities, and more collaborative with its U.S. government and foreign partners, we must create a workforce that has a diverse set of backgrounds, experiences, and points of view. To fully realize our potential to provide and protect national security as individuals, teams, and as an Agency, we must capitalize on the rich diversity of knowledge, skills, abilities, backgrounds, and perspectives of our workforce. National security and diversity go hand-in-hand as essential partners in the interest of global peace.
I also received a 30 day update but nothing on the status of my application. I guess I'll just have to wait. Good Luck!

Got a 30-day update too.
Wait, did you guys get this too.. "Currently, we have not been able to match your submission with the requirements of our vacancies." ? Is this just procedural? I went back to the NSA website and the program has been deleted from the job search (figures, as the application deadline ended.)

It's just an HR email that is automatically sent out. Everyone who applies gets it. Mid February is the first time people will be hearing about it, and by the first of march they should be done sending things out.

Does anyone know what the typical stats are for the semi-finalists are? I only have a 33 ACT comp but have a 36 math ACT, 800 math SAT, 800 math SAT II, 5's on both AP calc tests and have taken Calc III, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra. What are the chances of getting to the semis even if i'm not minority (even though I was born outside of the country).

Hi Guys,
I DID NOT get a 30 days update. When I called them late December, they said that they got my full application. I called them on Friday 1/6 and they told me they are beginning the elimination process for finalistS. Notice the capital S. More than one. I explicitly asked if they sent out notifications to the applicants or anything that tells them about the status of the process. They said NO. I do not know where you guys are getting your info, but the person I spoke to said that she did not send notifications. The man I spoke with in late December did say something about notifications though and a timetable.
Should I be worried that I have not gotten any notifications or anything?
Thanks in advance.

@floursifter Only a person who evaluates your application can tell your chances. Perhaps a person who got in the previous years can tell you too. Test-wise, you have done well. Congratulations. Keep up the academic vigor. Keep in mind they are looking for more than just test scores, rather evaluating your dedication (not variety) you put into your activities and how difficult they are. The recommendation from your teacher/counselor/principal also matters as well as your essays.
For example: Some finalist applicants may be interns and/or won national awards in Computer Science/ Business while they have SAT scores below 2000. Many of them might have been a part of NSA work-study too or editors/writers in a their school JEA/NSPA award-winning yearbook. Never assume your value on just the numbers. Overall, you seem very talented. Very few excel that well in tests. But, I am sure you surpass in terms of test scores.
As long as you are a US citizen (via green card process or naturalborn), that should not be a problem to you.

The 30 day updates states, "We very much appreciate the time you invested in considering NSA for your employment future. It has been 30 days since you applied and we wanted to give you an update..."
Their system probably sends these updates automatically.

I think the notices are automatic as well. We have received a 30, 60, and 90 day update thus far. We have not called NSA about anything. We're just waiting hopefully until mid February. Best of luck to everyone!
