Transfer Students

I searched the forum, but I didn't see a thread regarding this. As far as I can tell from the website, y'all accept applications from transfers, but from reading the threads from drjohn it seems like there isn't any place for them in the classes of 8. Can you enlighten me a bit on how the junior transfers fit into the program? Do they redo their sophomore year?

letscrshtheparty:

We do accept applications from transfers, but except in very unusual situations, we place transfers in the first-year class and they do four years with us. For example, in this year's class of 15 (9 MTs and 6 ACTs), we have an MT major (F) who started at OC a year ago as a dancer, and an Acting major (M) who had done two years in California before he came to us. Our current senior class has two 5-year students who started the BFA program in what otherwise would have been their sophomore year at OC.

We do on rare occasions accept a transfer at the sophomore level, but only if he or she has had equivalent training and we have space in the class. You should write to me directly at school (see my info to the left) if you want to know more about this.

A point of clarification: my answer above applies to our BFA degrees in Acting, Musical Theatre, and Musical Theatre with a Dance Concentration. Our BA in Theatre degree, however, can usually be completed in two years, and may be the best choice for students who have two years of work, want to get a college degree, and are considering MFA programs for their professional training.

Should an applicant indicate a secondary major choice? I know at some schools it hurts your chances for your first choice major if you do...

It wouldn't hurt your chances with us.
