cls238 - My D has fairly decent stats and got accepted to BFA Acting so I don't think you need to be concerned about that. In fact, if you listen to Amy Rogers' interview on Artscape she makes the point that many of her MT students are in the honors program.

P.S. I definitely understand what you're going through though in terms of over-analyzing everything. God knows I've done it. Good luck!

cls238-

I dont think a school would ever turn down a student who was above average. Your daughter will most likely be considred for more aide including the Honors College. Not to pat myself on the back either here but I had above average stats and am a Directing/Stage Management major...And here I am haha

Like SeaShells said, many of our MT majors are in the Honors Program and also, on the Dean's List so no worries! If anybody wants any info in the Honors College..let me know

About Directing tracks, they are hard to come by. What is harder still, is to make a successful director come out of the program. Pace's program is the kind of program where you pave your own way; they dont just hand out all fo the assets to just anyone here, you have to extract the goods and take advantage yourself. At one of the auditions in March, some kid said he was really interested in fight choregraphy and he asked if we had any classes or tracks for that. We dont. We dont have specfic classes or a program dedicated to it but if thats what he wants to do he can make it for himself. In almost every show we have done this year there has been some sort of fight whether serious or for humor that he could have choreographed and gotten credit for.

Its the same for a director here, even though we have the concentration. Just because you are a directing major, doesnt mean you automatically get to direct a show. With the directing class, you get to direct one-acts for the Directing Festival, but approval for the 4 student big student productions slots per year is a little more complicated and selective and therefore merit comes into play bigtime. For example, myself I am a freshman. I worked my butt off this year and became only the second freshman to get approved to direct a show next year.

Basically if a student wants it bad enough and works hard enough, they'll get so much more out of this program.

hey Hilary...While I was out today my son said someone called from Pace and wanted to talk to my D. My son told them she was not here "would you like to talk to her Dad (my husband)....They said thats okay...we will call again in the middle of the week. Do you have any idea who this could be? Of course I want it to be MT saying YOUR IN!!....but it is probably a student wondering if she is coming to the school or not. That would be the 2nd call for that. Any Ideas?

Lisa - My D got a call too today from Pace. It was from a current student asking her if she was planning to come to Pace, whether or not she was going to the Core program on April 15 and just generally chatting about her senior year...sorry.

Hey SeaShells29...Thanks, that is what I suspected. If the letter doesnt come tomorrow I will call the school for an answer because we have other deadlines. My D might go to that April program.

FINALLY!!! My D was put on a waitlist for MT at Pace. I am slightly disapointed but pleased she wasn't rejected outright because she really felt good about the audition...considering the stats...we are still proud of this outcome...now if only someone could tell me what it actually means in reality...are kids numbered on a list? Is there a time limit for us to move on? Help.......P.S...she was already accepted to the school.

Thanks for all of your input...it's so great to have support. I found out yesterday, my daughter's SAT scores didn't get sent until March 22nd, so the Admissions office said it will be2-4 weeks before they can give her a decision. Of course, my concern is now that all of the BA Theater slots will be filled, by the time she gets a yes/no answer. She really doesn't want to waitlist for her 2 other schools in case she gets into Pace, but I think that's putting too many eggs into one basket. Do you have any idea how many kids made it into the BA Theater Arts program at Pace?

From the BFA-Acting side, I believe the number of BAs he wanted to accept was 20. I'm not sure if there was an exact number for MT BAs though, but figure somewhere in that range, likely a little less.

Hilary,

Thanks for the quick response! I was thinking that the BA in Theater was different from the Acting program. Can you clarify?

Well the BFA Acting is a more intense program that has a 60-something credit requirement, whereas the BA Acting is only a 30 credit requirement.

BUT I just remembered, your daughter is going for directing. A-ha! Ok the BA has different facets to it that allow students to have a different concentration/focus/etc. The BA is what all non-performing majors get.. its technically a BA Theater Arts. The amount of technical BAs is a different story. And one that I dont know very well... I can ask Scott Parker, the Technical Director, who would be interviewing stage managers/lighting designers/etc how many he accepted and then also ask Dr. Woertendyke how many directing he had taken.

I'll try and get over to the office today to see if I can pry anything out of them but seeing as its Passover (no classes) they might not be in...

But to be a little reassuring, your daughter is not competing with all of the Acting BAs over a spot.

My daughter is on the waitlist for the MT program at Pace but yesterday we received a letter inviting her to be in the Theater arts BA program with an emphasis in acting. We have strayed away from BA vs Bfa because she likes a lot of hands on studio work vs too much class room. Does anyone know if a BA Theater Arts major at Pace can take a lot of voice and dance electives?
