RIP Election and Politics Forum

After long and ongoing deliberation, we are closing the Parent Cafe - Election and Politics forum.

We started it in the belief that our members should have a place to discuss important issues of the day, and that these discussions were best kept separate from the rest of our forums.

We have found, however, that while many thoughtful and well-reasoned opinions have been expressed, in many other cases the quality of the discussion has been harmed by ad hominem attacks and endless repetition of the same opinions.

Most importantly, our objective is to have CC be a friendly and welcoming community, and many of the discussions have not supported this objective. Rather, they have created friction and hard feelings between members who would otherwise have much in common. Hence, the decision to close the forum.

In all other forums, politics will remain an off-limits topic, with the sole exception being in a directly college-related context, e.g., "Are there many conservatives at Grinnell?" Political debates won't be allowed.

I'm sorry for those members who enjoyed participating in the discussion here, and I hope that you'll understand. Thanks!
