Ed Rollins: McCain Campaign --No one seems to be in charge

"NEW YORK (CNN) -- A campaign at war with itself cannot fight its opponent effectively.

We have seen two major campaigns this year that could be described as internally divided -- Sen. Hillary Clinton's losing primary campaign and now Sen. John McCain's general election effort.

And while chaos and disarray reigned supreme in Sen. Barack Obama's opponents' campaigns, the steady, disciplined and strategically driven Obama campaign marches forward toward likely victory.

Clinton's campaign had several different groups setting and implementing strategy. ...
All that brain power couldn't come together and agree on a consistent strategy to beat a young inexperienced outsider. ...

We now see something similar in the McCain campaign. There have been at least three major managerial changes or overthrows in the past 18 months....

In the end, it's not relevant who holds what title in the McCain operation, because it is not being run by campaign professionals, but by the Washington lobbying class.

And no one seems to be in charge, least of all the candidate. The end result is a campaign suffering from "schizophrenia."

Just heard a sound bite from McCain's speech today. I believe he was referring to Obama: "My friends. We've got them just where we want them." If McCain was referring to Obama, McCain must have slipped into senility or he's delusional.

Unfortunately I didn't need this article to figure out that McCains campaign is a joke.

Anyone paying attention could see how dysfunctional the McCain campaign has been without reading the article. (Too bad a lot of potential voters don't pay attention to the day to day the way some of us internet junkies do.)

No. 1 for me allowing Palin to become the VP candidate. Yes it energized the base but it created more negatives among moderates, plus the time staff have had to take to try to get her ready for the national stage took the attention off other aspects of the campaign.

No. 2 was the phony suspension of the campaign, the waffling on the debate, trying to maneuver out of the VP debate, being shown to be ineffective on producing a bailout bill (which then ended up costing more money than if it had passed the House the first time.)

No. 3 was the virulent nastiness of the campaign attacks on Obama rather than focusing on their own positive message.

No. 4 is the chaos evident when announcements are made that an economic plan is forthcoming and then canceled.

Can our collective nerves take a presidency like this? Not mine.
