She's at it again...Palin accuses Obama of ties to second "radical professor"

This is from a speech delivered in Bowling Green Ohio:

Quote:
Gov. Sarah Palin on Wednesday said Sen. Barack Obama has ties to a Columbia University professor who she said is "a former spokesperson for the Palestinian Liberation Organization."

The Obama campaign said on its Web site that "ugly insinuations about Barack Obama's relationship with a former neighbor and university colleague ... are completely false." The professor has denied he was a PLO spokesman.

Palin said her assertion "is not negative campaigning to call someone out on their record."

"It seems that there is yet another radical professor from the neighborhood who spent a lot of time with Barack Obama going back several years," Palin said at an event in Bowling Green, Ohio.

"This is important because his associate, Rashid Khalidi ... in addition to being a political ally of Barack Obama, he's a former spokesperson for the Palestinian Liberation Organization."
Quote:
Khalidi is a leading scholar of Middle Eastern studies at Columbia, and he was a contemporary of Obama's while on the faculty of the University of Chicago.

Khalidi has been a harsh critic of U.S. foreign policy toward Israel and has accused the country of "occupying" Palestinian territories. But he has denied acting as a PLO spokesman during a seven-year period in the 1970s and 1980s.

Khalidi said Wednesday, "I am not speaking to the media at this time, and certainly not until this idiot wind passes."
Quote:
Asked why the McCain campaign was bringing the matter up six months after the article appeared, an aide replied, "Because we are one week away from potentially electing Barack Obama."
I for one, cannot wait for this election and ALL the rhetoric to stop. This has gotten to a point that is beyond disgusting.

I hope that she continues talking. So that when this is over and she returns to Alaska there is no chance at all that she is ever elected again to anything. I have faith in my country.

^^^^ my concern that this is the October surprise, when Fox started running this story early this AM.
For those who want to read the original LA Times article here is the link.
Allies of Palestinians see a friend in Barack Obama - Los Angeles Times
The Mccain campaign is pushing for the Tapes of the dinner attended by Obama. Ughhhhhhhhhh, here we go................again...........but this could sway some voters.

The LA Times WILL NOT release that tape. I doubt they'll even release the transcript. At least not before he is elected. And I doubt that it has much on it anyway. But probably enough to "tie" Obama to Khalidi.

We all have seen Obama say one thing in public and a far different one in private, on several well reported occasions.

Can anyone here honestly tell me that if this were a video of McCain praising a staunch anti-Israel activist that it wouldn't be all over TV?

It's the double standard that has many so outraged. You personally may not care about the association, but there are people that would care and the media is manipulating information to protect their candidate.

Obama has no part in this. It is common practice among journalists to protect your source at any cost. Even if it means jail time.

By the way, McCain funded this "stauch anti-Israel activist" and I don't see that all over TV.

bellaro, you really walked with your chin into that one. Surely you know by know that a Republican group that McCain headed gave Khalidi more than $1 million? And surely that's far more "disturbing" than attending a farewell dinner?

But, of course, the right ignores this, and exhibits only selective "outrage" -- not that outrage is remotely justified on either count in the first place.

The only thing "outrageous" is the Republicans' double standard.

donnaL.. not sure about the chin walking reference....

In any case, I did read your post stating that a group headed by McCain gave under a half a million dollars to an organization headed up by Khalidi (not to Khalidi and not over a million).

The point is the level of association. Obama has more questionable associations than a dog has fleas.

Isn't there an expression about leading with your chin? Never mind!

By the way, the half million was just one donation -- my understanding was that the total was more than a million. And what's the difference between giving to him personally and giving to his organization, if the entire objection is to his politics, which one would have to presume are reflected in his organization?

That is what they used to say at the Steelers games when Cowher was there.

From WordReference.com:

This expression refers to a boxer who's not very good. Normally, depending on whether a boxer is right handed (orthodox) or left handed (southpaw) you would say "he leads with his left/right"--the leading hand being the "jabbing" hand, saving the other, stronger arm for the heaviest punches. To say "he'd always led with his chin" means that he always left his chin sticking out, inviting his opponent to knock him out.
