| Rabbis for Obama Quote:
We join together as rabbis who believe that Barack Obama is the best candidate to be President of the United States, and we do so in the belief that he will best support the issues important to us in the Jewish community.
Senator Barack Obama inspires in us the hope for an America once more called to its best values. We know him to be a man of incredible integrity, born of a deep and abiding spiritual faith based on the teachings of the Hebrew Prophets, and committed to achieving a world of peace with justice for all people.

Just want to add that I am very pleased with one of my local parishes, which is an intensely traditional spiritual parish in its practices. They are keeping the church open for an entire day of silent prayer and adoration but with no partisan agenda one way or the other. How can one argue with that? I will add that this approach differs from supposedly more "liberal" parishes where in fact similar days of prayer have been announced with an overt agenda.

My pastor has been wonderfully silent.
Another neighboring pastor(same faith) had people riled up and clapping to down the man who supports death of the innocents.
Many people walked out especially the 18-35 year old group.

"It's pretty clear to me that Obama talks and acts like a believing Christian, and McCain doesn't."
McPOW is a fundamentalist Hindu. I've already posted the links.

I'm not holy enough to figure anyone is a better follower of his or her religion than another. I care about how they think about social issues and how they act on them, their personal faith (or not) notwithstanding.
I do recommend that Speaking of Faith episode that I linked to yesterday. The less religion is part of policy, the better off religion is and the better off government is.

Leaving innocent babies who survived botched suction abortions to die in a back room of the hospital without even palliative care is the most un-Christian thing I can think of. Barack Obama voted THREE TIMES to withhold palliative care from these tiny victims. Then he has the "audacity" to lie about it on national TV and say that he WOULD HAVE voted for the Infants Born Alive Act but did not do so because of a technicality. That is after he promised NARAL that the first thing he WILL do as President is guarantee that there will be no restriction on third term or late term abortions via the Freedom of Choice Act.
No matter how you slice it, this man is actively promoting abortion. He views an unexpected pregnancy as a punishment.
God can judge me all he wants as to whether or not I am a good Christian. But Barack Obama is absolutely not a Christian. God told us that he knew us before we were formed in the womb. Barack Obama is an abominable liar and he has no moral conscience for the care of the vulnerable, the unborn, the elderly or the defenseless--and I might add that he will let our military men and women be slaughtered like sheep when he yanks 25% of our military budget out from under them. Then he will pull us out of Iraq and we'll witness more slaughter like we did in Cambodia years ago.
Having said all this I think that Obama may not be our next President.

Guess I must be one of those "whitebread protestants" - this morning I passed out communion at my church, and this afternoon I'm scheduled to work for Obama's GOTV!

If you are a one issue voter and your one issue is abortion rights and you are a Catholic who may have received pamphlets at church or online videos that may have discussed mortal sin in tandem with this election:
Did you know that McCain supports abortion in the event of rape and incest?
Isn't that just as much an abortion as one that occurs for other reasons such as health of the mother and serious, life threatening genetic abnormalities? I think an abortion is an abortion no matter the reason.
There are thoughtful positions set out in the National Catholic Reporter from theologians and at least one Archbishop that suggest you vote your conscience and do not imply that a vote for Senator Obama might not be a mortal sin.

It happened to me again. I sure wish I could edit my posts. The last sentence in my post above should have read:
"......and do not imply that a vote for Senator Obama may be a mortal sin."

I counted today Obama stickers and McCain stickers as I walked into church...we are in Prince William in VA, Obama's very last stop. 8 McCain 1 Obama..and it wasn't Obama 08 , it was his seal. I gave up counting how many McCain lawn banners compared to Obama...needless to say it was only 1 Obama(Fireman for Obama/Biden) the reast were all and I mean all McCain. It is a 20 minute ride through three towns to get to our church. If you also drive from exit 158 off of 95 to my house (12 miles) it's all McCain.

hahahahaha "obama talks and acts like a believing Christian"??!! was anyone else appalled/disgusted with the fact that of his last 7 years earnings he's donated a measly 3%...it's disgusting. that's not even tithe. and it's also a pretty ironic fact considering his so-called desire for the promotion of the low-class America. excuse me while i find a toilet to puke in

I am a Catholic...abortion is not my only consideration, taxes, military and healthcare rank above that. Abortion ranks lower on my list.
Personally, I couldn't care why Obama voted 4 times against his abortion bill...he did, end of subject. If he was such a strong leader he should have had that bill re-written so partial abortion fetus were given medical attention...that is not a religios belif, that is a human belief.

and to silvervestermom---did you even think about your post before you put it up for the world to see? yes, abortion is abortion, but would i rather have tons of abortions happening in all circumstances or would i rather see limitted abortion? it's not that hard a thought process. while of course i would rather see none, that can't be the case considering the circumstances and so i think i'll pick the lesser of two evils. that was a really, really weak argument. and does anyone else find it contradictory/ironic that these left democrats support abortion but oppose capital punishment. that makes sense i guess. kill the innocent life and save the convicted murderer/serial rapist. what the hell? and yes, i did mean that question to add to the irony

^^This implies that she has something to be ashamed of. She clearly is not ashamed of her position, nor is it necessary, i.m.o., for you to shame her.
silvestersmom, Thanks for the mention of the archbishop & NCR. That, I believe, is what I had come across & was looking for earlier.
Today is Sunday. Many of us have been to Mass or other Christian services. Let's refrain from using words to do violence to each other in you-know-who's name.
