And now people will be unhappy that he didn't have his Bible with him the second time around!

Maybe today Michelle wore something more to everyone's liking.

Funny comment at NYTimes online tonight, something along the lines of

Q. How many editors of the Harvard Law Review does it take to get the oath right?

A. More than two.

Seriously, it seems like this should not have been necessary today, but I guess it's worth it to stave off the conspiracy theorists, who can get back to the great Birth Certificate Plot now.

I like Obama's quip that they decided it was so much fun, they did it again.

^ Exactly, it will just shut up the nuts, which I suppose is almost reason in itself.

I think it would've been fine/good if, at the time of the initial messed up attempt, they had laughed it off and said "well, shall we try that again?" and then just done it right then and there.

No, I figure that the birthers will decide that (1) Roberts deliberately messed up the oath on the 20th as a last ditch effort to prevent Obama from taking office while buying time for the Supreme Court to accept one of the cases that still is yet to be dismissed from their docket, and (2) the 2nd swearing in didn't really happen, because if it did, then why no t.v. footage? To add fuel to #2, Anderson Cooper had a CNN correspondent griping over the fact that the White House failed to notify the media & bring in a pool camera to film the whole thing.

This is apparently the third time that a Presidential swearing-in has been repeated because of concerns about the way things were handled the first time around.

Quote:
Two presidents -- Calvin Coolidge and Chester A. Arthur -- have retaken the oath because of unusual circumstances the first time around.

I still want to know who was President between noon on the 20th and yesterday at 7:30 when he was sworn in. Since the theory here was that the Oath is what makes him President.

And if that theory is true, then the executive orders he signed on Wednesday don't count.

It's a shame that he felt he had to idiot-proof himself.

I find it very interesting that 2 other presidents retook the oath "because of unusual circumstances" but I am very disappointed that the link does not provide any information on those circumstances. So why did those other presidents retake the oath?

re post 11: The office switches at noon on Jan 20, even when it falls on a Sunday. Obama was President starting at noon.
