Would you trust your state with the stimulus money?

let me start by saying the words "transparency in government" is an oxymoron.
I heard on the news that a group (made of people from different organizations) is going to be the overseer of the stimulus money in NYC.
No words yet, whether the stimulus money is going to be lumped with the city budget. If this happened, that will be a major red flag to me.
Since, you scratch my back I scratch your back mentality is so rampant in government, I'm looking forward to read the clever and not so clever ways used to divert the money.
I am really interested to see how states like Florida and Illinois used the money.

I trust my state. But I also trust my governor, even though she is of the opposite party.

I trust my state. They are conservative with spending and have a large rainy day account put away. We even increased k - 12 education funding over the next two year by 3% each year.

By 'state' you really mean 'politicians'. I think that pretty much says it all.

How sad, ucsd, that you can't trust the people you elected. I'm not disagreeing; it's just sad.

What has to happen to change that??

Well, there may be a Senator spot open here real soon in Illinois....lol

I will say that 95% of the money given to Illinois will be spent in Chicago; most of it wasted.

NH? Sure. Doesn't matter whether it's a D or R as the Governor. They're all pretty cheap.

Drizzit, what state you live in? I might move there.
Hops_scout, from what I read and hear about your state, can it truly, get a new senator who is not " tainted" ?
Veryhappy, I wish I could say I trust Gov. Paterson.

I guess the elected people would have to stop lying about what they are going to do once in office.

I'd trust my state more than my city because Antonio Womanizer is a crook, and Arnold already his enough money to afford not to be a crook.

My state will do an excellent job with the funds, especially as there isn't a single earmark or pork in it.

Not likely. To have any statewide influence, you have to be "in" with Chicago. And very little of the "Chicago System" is good to go.

I trust our State employees and politicians in Texas. The money will likely get spent on highway and construction projects which are fairly easy for citizens to monitor and complain about. There has been a lot of talk in our city specifically of the money being used for a much-needed highway intersection improvement project. We have two major highways joined by a red light. The traffic stacks up there for miles.
