Obama tried to get an earmark for the Hospital after the hospital increased her salary (her salary was also increased when Obama became the Senator). From most accounts the post was just a political appointment.

"My perspective remains that THIS forum has never been about fairness and truth"
As you so aptly proved with your ridiculous question about how much Michele Obama worked after her husband was elected a US Senator.

Absolutely well done, LGM. I don't agree with you on every point, but on many of them.

She has a $7 million book deal. I do think it's odd that she is resigning now, but whatever. I'm sure she has her reasons.

I'm hoping she realized her 15 min of fame was over, and it wasn't worth the cost to her family to remain in the public spotlight. Or, maybe she's just a quitter. Who knows [ and really cares?]She was an embarrassment to women politicians who spend years working hard in order to be taken seriously.

"By the way, do you have any ideas on how many full-time days Michele Obama spent at the hospital after her husband became a US Senator?"
Hello?? Obviously you don't know too much about the Obama family history , because after he was elected to the US Senate HE was in Washington most of the time, living in a bachelor apt. SHE stayed in Ill to work and to raise her daughters as best she could without a [mostly] absent father!! Sheesh.
And my question is deemed ridiculous because of the analysis quoted above? An analysis that suggest I did not know that the POTUS was in Washington but Mrs. Obama remained in Chicago? Did I ever stated that I believed she moved to Washington? After why would she considering Obama himself spent about 75 days in the country's capital before starting his campaign.

For the record, my question is far from ridiculous. I did state that Michele Obama's job at the hospital was questionable. I did this today and did it in the past. Others claim that she made gigantic strides during her tenure at the hospital. Since I do make a difference between her initial job and her post Senate election promotion, it is more than fair to be allowed to question what she actually did and when in her latter job. And, for that matter, how she did reconcile the various demands of raising her children (as you describe) with such highly demanding and visible job.

Sheesh!

tega - Her salary jumped from $122K in 2004 to $317K in 2005 just after he took office in the Senate. But, we aren't allowed to talk about that...just the cute arm-baring Jackie-esque dresses and Todd Palin's involvement in AIP.

meloparkmom--I'm not sure about that. Politicians have monstrous egos. Do they EVER realize when their 15 minutes are over? I have my doubts.

Xiggi, you misunderstand. I am not saying any post of yours violated the TOS!! Why would I report any of them? I don't think that is the issue whatsoever. My point was that you asked if it was fair game to discuss the motivations of other members. And I said that I don't think that discussing motivations of members is fair game according to the TOS, though that guideline is not enforced on the Pol Forum. I was answering a question you posed; that's all.

And I do believe you introduced a tenor into this discussion when you got into discussing CC members, their motivations and so forth, as opposed to keeping to the topic at hand. You also made predictions about the thread before any of that happened. Why not just stick with discussing the issue? That's all I am saying.

Xiggi, yes, it is fair for you to question Michelle Obama, just as it is fair for others to question Sarah Palin and without either being referred to as "haters" or obsessed over the issue.

ldmomo6, There is no way they would have increased her salary that much if they were not expecting something in return. I doubt that her work increased that much after the salary increase, I mean, she was still able to take her girls to ballet, music lessons etc.

Focus on the thread topic people. Deflection is a debating tactic you shouldn't fall for.
