Well if there is anyone who knows how to be catastrophically wrong, it is Bill Kristol.

All I could think seeing this laughingstock resign was “goodbye and good luck!” I think her ego is telling her she has a shot at national office – and, if it doesn’t work out, she will manage to make enough money to keep her family afloat. Her miscalculation is that after 8 years of W, the American people won’t be ready for another philistine as POTUS for a long, long time.

I'm willing (against my better judgment) to give her the benefit of the doubt, and assume she is quitting to avoid indictment.

This thread reminds me why I took a break from CC. I have never seen such vindictiveness and pettiness in my life. It is really shameful.

...still waiting for someone to address post #222. xiggi? littlegreenmom?
Or is it just easier to zero in on Pizzagirl and what she "believes" (starting to get way ad hominem but that's the usual GOP style when they can't answer questions based on fact?)

Yeah, Tega, I know what you mean. I only joined a little while ago, but I've pretty much lost my taste for it. The wierdest thing about it, and I think this will be my last post, is that before I joined CC I always considered myself very liberal...most of my publications are cited by liberals and many of the journals my work appears in are considered liberal, as well. But, after a few months on CC? I'd really rather have dinner or coffee with the conservatives I've encountered here than with any of the so-called liberals. Good luck to you all. I hope you can soon find a better way to spend your time. |

Meanness of Republican towards Gore and Kerry pales in comparison to the meanness of Liberals towards Palin.

poetgrl--I'm a liberal poster who's good e-friends with several of the conservatives here. But I'm also fond of many of my fellow-libs. In my experience, snarkiness and hostility on CC has flowed like a river from both political directions. Fortunately, so does friendliness and even much-needed goofiness. ... Re: Giving up on CC political discussions. While it does get frustrating and offensive here at times, there's such a high level of intelligence present on this board that it's never boring. It would be hard for me to walk away from it, though at times I do go dormant. |

I was attempting to think about this resignation seriously. As in: does this enhance or hinder her presidential aspirations?
My take: it hinders. Who wants a president who quits when the going gets tough, or who is afraid of being a lame duck?

At this point, I agree that it hinders her presidential prospects. That may change when we know more.

taking bets that she will not run for president[ what republican kingmaker who values his reputation in the party would be crazy enough support her ?], but is off to pursue other [money making] ventures. I can see her landing a nationally syndicated radio talk show broadcast from Wasilla.

Even my dad (who is a die-hard Republican, has never voted for a Democrat in his entire life and voted for the McCain-Palin ticket) hooted at her resignation speech. He said that this is so stupid that she must be on some kind of drugs...
