I'm a liberal, and I used to be amused by her. Now, I just feel bad for her. She climbed the tier so quickly, and fell even faster. I can't imagine the stress of her life- I just don't think she was cut out to be a politician.

I would love to sit and have a cup of coffee <decaf only please!> with you. I'm sure others would join us. My nearest and dearest friends IRL are blue as blue liberals and are the kindest people in the world. You will not find that on the internet.

I have never seen such vindictiveness and pettiness in my life. It is really shameful.
Unfortunately, it's how CC rolls tega. At least it's consistent! My mom used to say, 'people tear others down, to feel good about themselves'. Throughout my life, I've seen that to prove true, over and over again. I'm with you, I need another sabbatical!

>>She is very attractive, very funny and very every day, and she will be like a likable Ann Coulter, but without the intellect.<<

She certainly is attractive, but when she is funny it is almost always inadvertent and/or in ways that are unfavorable to her. She'll need a good joke writer and a lot more practice if she is going to be a national political wit. It's not hard to be more likable than Ann Coulter, however. Even Charles Manson could achieve that.

I'm willing (against my better judgment) to give her the benefit of the doubt, and assume she is quitting to avoid indictment.
Well, I assume this is the other shoe about to drop. But if an indictment is warranted, I would think it's going to come whether she's in office or not. Perhaps being the former governor will blunt some of the ensuing publicity, though.

Out of politics and into punditry is probably exactly how this will play out.

I find her attractive (till she opens her mouth).

Could say the same thing about Palin.

Sarah will be a huge success as a media talking head. Her book will be a mega best-seller, particularly if she uses a good ghost writer.

Look, I know what you mean, tega and poetgirl. But the knee-jerk reaction to reportage due to perceived slant is best applied to Op-Ed or opinion pieces. The article I referenced names names, dates, dollar amounts, and incidents.

I take your point that you will dismiss what is written in the Village Voice, but what will you believe -- the NY Times? Washington Post? Probably not, right?

What do you watch, read, or listen to? Fox News, the Drudge Report and Rush Limbaugh?

This is a genuine question, Republicans on this list, where do you get facts that YOU respect?

I just read Palin's speech. So, who was mocking Trig? I can't even imagine someone scummy enough to do that.

Re: #263. Perhaps they were referencing attitude in general. Quite often, we (myself included) get sharp with our words around here--maybe sharper than we ought to, and sometimes the inflammatory rhetoric just wears you down. I went on hiatus from CC for several months during the last election cycle, because I didn't like the snarky b***h I was turning into ... and I certainly didn't care for what seemed like an increasingly low-brow, insulting tone to the political discussions. For what it's worth, I think it's a whole lot better now than it was, say, a year ago.

I wasn't mocking Trig the person, but I admit I think it's hilarious that someone would name their kid after a math class.

I went on hiatus from CC for several months during the last election cycle, because I didn't like the snarky b***h I was turning into ... and I certainly didn't care for what seemed like an increasingly hostile tone to the political discussions. I joined a group of conservative CC friends on a new board with the name "civilized" in it, as part of an experiment in tolerance and understanding, but sadly, that didn't go well either. After several attacks on my viewpoints, I took my liberal mindset and wounded feelings, and returned to CC. Anyway ... I ramble.

For what it's worth, I think CC's a whole lot better now than it was, say, a year ago. ... I also think it's unfair to single out a certain segment of posters as the "guilty ones." If one read enough of these things, one would know that there's plenty of guilt to go around.

I haven't read Palin's speech, Hindoo - did she reference the mocking in there?

I believe that Trig means something in Inuit, so it's unfair to mock his name.
As for the tone on CC, complainers should check out the comments on political blogs. Vicious, scatological are some of the milder descriptors I could come up with.
I don't know that Palin has been attacked more than other candidates, including Obama. Birthers are still out there challenging his right to be POTUS; some of them are even in Congress. Palin's children, however, have been targets of discussion, much of which have been critical of SP.

I have since read that the "mocking" she refers to was someone photo-shopping an adult male's head onto Trig's body in a picture of Palin holding the baby. The obvious intent was to mock her relationship with the adult male.

Whether doing so using a picture of her and her baby is in good taste is a matter of opinion, I suppose. Certainly, cartoons of adults depicted as babies have been a stock in trade of political satire for centuries. Only recently has it been possible to use a real baby picture as the basis, though. Personally, I think that using her baby as the model is in poor taste. I admit that the fact that he has Down Syndrome makes it in even worse taste to me. Perhaps I can be chastised for not treating individuals with DS as equals, but I think that the vulnerability makes a difference. I think kids are off limits. (IMHO, Bristol changed that for herself when she sold her baby pictures to People magazine and courted publicity. To the earlier poster who demanded to know why there hasn't been similar coverage of the Obama girls: perhaps because neither of them has gotten pregnant out of wedlock, participated in a big public announcement of such, and sold pictures to People?)
