Maybe Fox News is waving a big contract under her nose. She could become the new Rush - only with lipstick and a lot better looking.
She clearly was smitten with her own stardom back in the campaign. Maybe she is smart enough to see that taking the road to super-stardom through elective office is a lot harder and more uncertain than simply signing a contract with a media company.
Personally, I'm kinda sad to see her quit. I was REALLY hoping the Republicans would actually nominate her in 2012. It would have been the biggest landslide for the Democrats in US history.

The people of Alaska will continue to file ethics charges against her for as long as she is in office. If she doesn't get out now, she will have to run for President boasting the world record in ethics violations. Once again, it's all about Sarah.

xiggi, everyone has their own experience. My experience with my children lead me to conclude that when I speculated about their future behavior, then criticized them for that behavior which they had not yet done, they immediately got defensive, angry, and lashed back. So I stopped it. Things tend to be better when I actually parent what they do, not what I accuse them of doing in the future.
I tried to find the Obama campaign's comment about Palin that tega found so egregious. But after going through 8 google pages of Palin calling Obama a terrorist, and not a real American, I gave up.
I'm actually more interested in these developments. I don't count myself as one of those who spent a lot of time talking about Palin's family life, and I wasn't a frequenter of the family-bashing threads.

It's a day of celebration for Gov. Palin's haters everywhere.
| Wow. Just speaking for myself, I don't hate Palin at all!! I just don't think she would be right for the office of VP or POTUS. Further, I don't rejoice i her resignation and I believe she should finish out her term as Gov., at least based on information disclosed so far.

| Obama campaign highlights Palin's 'zero' experience Quote: |
Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency," Obama spokesman Bill Burton said in a statement.
| At this time she was the Governor of Alaska.
This is such a ridiculous statement given that Obama was counting living in Indonesia as a 9 year old, and traveling to India during college as part of foreign policy experience. I would have been overqualified for Secretary of State if we were using this criteria.

I don't know why she really resigned but I think when someone is elected to office by the voters they have a certain obligation to those voters and should stick it out for the term (and not disappear for a while either like the other governor) unless there are life altering events that have taken place such as health or family issues - or if the voters clearly want them out. Why the comment? Do you think she's been a bad governor for Alaska or do you just not like her because of her party affiliation?

hayden,
I am glad that you weren't one of those posters that felt it great comedy to tear down the woman's personal life or her family during the political campaign season, or after.
The comment you were trying to find was from the first press release of the Obama campaign about the news of Palin entering the campaign:
"Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency," said Obama spox Bill Burton.
Obama backed away from it and was gracious, and probably didn't know it was even mentioned. Just more partisan hackery in a campaign, I suppose. The Obama Campaign's First Impulse... - Political Punch
Somehow, "Governor of Alaska" wasn't mentioned in that release. Intentional?
You, betcha!

| Appears as a pre-emptive strike. If something damaging were about to come out, perhaps she is resigning ahead of time. That is speculation but right now, not much makes sense on the timing part.

yup....here we go. Let the lurid conjecture begin. Don't hold back now....we've all seen the Palin-haters in action and we will be expecting only your very best efforts.

I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. There's gotta be more to this story than what we currently know, otherwise it defies all logic.
| I agree. The cynic in me tells me something smells in Wasilla, and it's not baked Alaska.

The Vanity Fair article about her gives some insight as to how she struggles with criticism. She certainly needs all the time she can get to prepare for 2012.

because I think she was a huge mistake as a VP pick- she was totally lacking in preparation to be ready to step in as POTUS, and I don't see her as ever being able to gain the credibility to be seriously considered as ready for national office. I am hoping she has realized this and is resigning to take care of her family and deal with what ever issues she has to deal with.

ldmom--I'm not a Palin hater. Just not a fan, politically speaking. ... With all the outrageous hoo-hah perpetrated by political figures in recent years (invariably, men), one has to wonder when a very high-profile person suddenly steps down like this. Most likely, she wants the time and space to gear-up for a presidential run. Hopefully, it has nothing to do with "hiking the Appalachian Trail." |

Too bad that SNL is off for the summer. Otherwise they'd be scrambling right now to write a hilarious script and bring Tina Fey back to play it. It would have been interesting to see what they could do with only one day to pull it off.
