I have two words for those of you so filled with disdain of Sarah Palin.
Joe Biden.
Indeed.

I don't get how this is supposed to be persuasive. Joe Biden? Well, yeah, he's far from perfect, but I'd take him over Palin as president any day of the week, and twice on Sunday. I'm far more embarrassed by John Edwards, and I shudder to think what might have happened if he'd gotten the nomination, or won the presidency.

And I bet President Obama shares that sentiment.

| Persuasive of what? That the left has an utter buffoon, worthy of mockery and disdain as well? I actually think that IS persuasive. Mr. Biden makes that case well and often.

The thought of Biden a heartbeat away from the megaphone his razorsharp wit and intelligence was just made for unsettles my stomach.

Well, then pray for President Obama's continuing good health and mental acuity. But, I'm sure that is already in everyone's prayers.

It's very telling that considering how little I think of Joe Biden, I think he's head and shoulders better than Sarah Palin.

| Well, you're certainly entitled to your opinion. He does shoot off his mouth on occasion, but he does have a track record as a policymaker. I do think it's a bit much to refer to him as an utter buffoon, and then look disdainfully through one's lorgnette at people criticizing Palin.

Here is my conspiracy theory for the day:
Obama chose Biden as an insurance policy, of sorts.
Because why would some crazed lunatic attempt an assassination with Biden waiting in the wings?

It's not a conspiracy theory, it is good planning.

| I hope you weren't being facetious. Of course one holds the President of the United States in one's prayers. Particularly one who might, God forbid, ever become a target.

| Well since I don't look disdainfully upon criticism of Palin and, in fact, engage in that myself, you are obviously not referring to me. I look disdainfully at the choice of certain people to stoop to engage in specific criticism that I find unseemly. And I do think that Vice President Biden is a buffoon. And you are certainly entitled to your differing opinion.

It is extraordinary that we are now 760+ posts in, and no one has been able to offer a compelling case for the individual Sarah Palin and why she should hold high office. Which isn't to say that anyone should. It is just indicative of the fact that she is more symbolism than anything else.

I have read several pieces that discuss vice-presidential selection from the presidential candidate's point of view. Few seemed to be trying to pick a great "what if the unthinkable happened" V-P. Most were trying to get a VP candidate with some aspect they lacked that they thought would get the ticket elected.
