I grew up in Delaware and have a lot of respect for Biden. Yes, he does talk off the cuff too much, but if that's his greatest liability . . . (and talk about "family values")
| I do too. I even remember him from when I was a little girl growing up in PA -- his story was so compelling, and he was widely regarded as someone who did the right thing.
In the Biden/Palin debate, I LOVED when Sarah Palin tried to pull her hockey-mom-of-5 schtick and Biden cleaned her clock with his own personal story. How dare she pull that I'm-a-woman-so-I'm-the-only-one-who-can-demonstrate-family-values crap.

>>Noonan has lost her conservative credentials. That's OK, she can write what she wants, and you can agree with it. But conservatives aren't much impressed with Peggy these days.<<
Are you suggesting that any conservative who doesn't admire Sarah Palin isn't a true conservative? Since when did that become the hallmark of conservative authenticity? Peggy Noonan still is a loyal Reagan follower and still sticks pretty closely to a conservative philosophy and view of government. The fact that she's not afraid to point out a fool when she sees one does nothing to alter that.

Uh Random,
Guess what? McCain/Palin lost and Obama/Biden won. So why are you debating something that you thought happened 8 months ago? If she HAD impressed the voters of America a lot more both during her debate, and during subsequent interviews and speeches, maybe it might have made a difference in Nov.
| Good point, menlo. And randomthots suggests that it is others who are not able to move on? |

does anybody but me really dislike the sound of Palin's voice. I can't put my finger on it, but no matter what she is saying, there is this backdrop (at least in my head) of an irritating voice. Her inflection, accent???? what word am I looking for??? Some people have a nice voice, hers bothers me. It's more than what's she's saying, it's how she says it.

| That's exactly the problem with her. "I'm a woman. See my family values. But don't you dare criticize them. Only I'm allowed to comment on them."

It's the sound of desperation - or vacuousness - or both.

I typed in "sound of Sarah Palin's voice", sueinphilly. Another link popped up that compared her voice to that of the mayor on South Park! I listened to a clip, and found that I didn't really agree, but the comparison was amusing none-the-less. The megasizzle link used the word "shrill". Is that what you are thinking? It also compared her to Rachel Ray, and of SP, said " the grating “Fargo”esque meets School Teacher meets Nag accent will get on your nerves pretty quickly."

sueinphilly,
This was the first link that popped up when I did my internet search: You Betcha Sarah Palin Has a Higher Calling | The Moderate Voice
which included some entertaining commentary: Quote:
I have no idea where this “higher calling” came from, but I suspect it could only have come from two sources. The first one is God. I don’t know what God said to Sarah Palin, but I suspect it might have been something like this:
“Sarah. I am a patient God. But, you have tried my patience. You are an embarrassment to my ideals, to yourself, to the people of your state, and to your country. Me, and my wolves and moose, would like you to please resign and devote the rest of your life in spiritual embrace of a better life. Oh, by the way, I knew a Sarah, and you are no Sarah.”
The other possibility of her “higher calling” is from the Sultan of Greed. I also haven’t talked to him about Sarah Palin’s “Higher Calling,” but this is a possibility of that conversation:
“So, Sarah, what do you earn as governor?”
“About $125,000.”
“Would you like to earn more? Lots more?”
“You betcha! Half my salary is already taken up on clothes and jewelry so I can be the best darned governor in these here greatest United States of America!”
“Resign as governor, sign with me, and I’ll get you a book deal worth millions.”
“But I’ve never written nothing before.”
“All you’ll have to do is talk into a tape recorder. We’ll correct some of your facts, add some stuff, take out some stuff, and make you sound as if you were Hillary Clinton but without all that liberal nonsense.”
“Maybe you could put in a lot of pictures. If there were a lot of pictures, I wouldn’t have to have as many words.”
“We’ll give you the best writers and fashion photographers. You’ll be in the Best Sellers list the day our—I mean your—book is published.”
“You would do that for li’l ole me?”
“Not only would my team do that, we’ll get you speaking engagements.”
“But I already give speeches. All the conservatives want my opinions.”
“It isn’t your opinions they crave, but that’s another story. I can get you speeches at maybe a hundred thousand each.”
“And it’s all mine!”
“Minus expenses, administrative fees, and commissions.”
“You’re taking a cut of my wisdom?”
“Trust me, Babe, we don’t want your wisdom, but that’s how this business works. You want to ride, you have to pay the operator. Now, about punditry.”
“But, Sultan, I’m not so good with puns. Maybe—”
“Not jokes, Darlin’! We’ll get you a radio gig. Couple of hours a day. You just say whatever you want into a microphone.”
“That sounds tough. I might have to spend time researching issues, and reading something, like maybe a newspaper.”
“You ever listen to talk radio?”
“No research and reading?”
“It’ll only hurt your credibility. Once we get you a radio contract, we’ll move you onto TV.”

That's why Tina Fey's imitations are so incredibly effective. Not only does Tina Fey in costume look just like Sarah Palin, but she perfectly captures Palin's voice as well.

Jym, that is a funny parody that I could see as a SNL skit.

The Sultan of Greed IS God - the "hidden hand of the market" - and so she has decided to purse God's work.
