| If I am covered by my wife's health plan will I be forced to buy health insurance?
Under the House bill, what would happen to me in this curcumstance? Does anyone know?

What do you think? You'd be covered by your wife's health plan.

^ To my knowledge, as long as you have insurance you are fine. It doesn't matter if it's yours or your wifes as long as you have some.

You are fine.
Except of course you'll have to go to a death panel.

Nobody can actually answer any questions regarding the health care reform yet. Anything said is pure speculation.

But no plan is going to require a person who is covered by a spouse's plan to go and buy separate coverage.

I don't really think we know what is going to happen. I mean, who knows if employers will even be offering spousal coverage or ANY coverage. It is really expensive for us, and I can say we are waiting to hear hear what the deal is before we are going to consider hiring anyone. I know we're not the only ones. FWIW. I just don't think anyone knows anything yet.

| Like poetgrl said: pure speculation!. Since this is a college forum, think about all of the colleges that require students to purchase the college health plan even tho they have a better, "Cadillac" health plan from home.

Really? All the schools I know of ask for proof of insurance, then waive the college plan.

Also, poetgrl, if the business drops spousal plans, then that's a different question from what the OP asked, which started with the assumption that there is one.

Are there colleges that require you to buy a health plan? I've not heard of one.
The House bill, which is somewhat more restrictive, has a $500,000 payroll limit for small business, meaning any business under that is not required to do anything.

The issue becomes how much of taxes on the so-called cadillac plans are passed to the employer in the form of billing, which I suspect will be most of it. The environment is incredibly hostile to small businesses right now. It's not like with Goldman or Government motors...it is more challenging now than it has been at any time since Carter. Hence the jobless recovery.
As for the health care reform bill, we can talk all day long, but it's speculation. Nobody, including Harry Reid, knows what is going to end up in it. So, anything is possible, actually.

Well, it's certainly possible that the bill will require us all to buy our insurance from the Church of Obama, but I think that's pretty unlikely. I think there are other things that you can say are pretty darn unlikely as well.

1500 pages here... 2000 pages there... more creativity on tap... I wouldn't bet on anything being unlikely.
