What would you need to administer? My view of open borders aligns with my theory that govt's shouldn't help there people at all. Govts have there very small and set functions, but thats it. No food, water, healthcare, or anything else for that matter.

If the US got rid of all its social programs and became a sane and moral state, immigrants likely wouldn't migrate here ar the rates they currently do.
That will never happen, so the mere proposal of open immigration is idiotic.

Illegal aliens should compete for college acceptance in the country where they hold citizenship. My daughter can not be considered for special treatment in Mexico if I were to send her there. Why should some people be entitled to compete for admission to college in two different countries? And why should illegal aliens be given priority over those applicants who use proper legal chanels for a shot at an education in the US? I say advise the Mexican government how to improve their University system and require illegals to return and compete for entrance. It would slow the brain drain from Latin American countries, which may come back to haunt them years from now.

^ why?..because libs don't believe in borders..everyone is a citizen of the planet, everyone should have the same rights as we Americans do because we are all human beings...makes sense, but as a species, maybe we are a couple thousand years away from that happening.

thecheckbox, if your daughter spent most of her life in Mexico and it is the only home she knows, then why shouldn't she go to Mexican colleges? There is a difference between people who lived their whole lives in Mexico and just want to come here for college and those who have been here the majority of their lives and want to go to college.

roman,
People move to other countries all the time. I have lived in 3 different countries, and several times in my life, our family has tried to live in several more. (didn't get the job, tho).

What's the big deal? Most people consider overseas experiences to be broadening and coveted. These kids' parents did exactly the same thing: Moved to the U.S. even tho Mexico was the only home they ever knew.

People who choose to move across borders is an entirely different situation than requiring someone to uproot themself. It's a pretty big deal to tell someone they have to "return" to someplace they may not even remember, where they might not even speak the dominant language.

Who put them in that position? Their parents, blame them.

That's not the US's fault.

Why do fault and blame have to come into it? How would it help anyone or to deport someone like that or deprive them of opportunities that could benefit them and allow them to benefit their adopted country?

They can't benefit their adopted country, if they can't work legally after college graduation because they lack citizenship.

I am not a huge fan of illegal immigration and my views have been pretty clear on that. But it isn't fair to hold up the carrot and tell these kids to work hard and achieve and then pull the rug out from under them, after they get out of college and realize they can never get a job in their chosen profession.

The time has come to tighten up our borders, this is true. But I believe we should fast track those kids who lack citizenship who have achieved a college education.

Will the DREAM ACT be reintroduced as legislation in the next year?

If the student is not a legal citizen (came over with parents at any age, doesn't matter) why should they get cheaper tuition than a legal US resident in another state? No one is stopping them from going to school, but they shouldn't get in-state lower tuition as a non-US citizen than a citizen in a neighboring state.

It is one of the reasons why several out of state students sued the University of California system in 2006.

Oh, Cartera. Do you have a problem with your knee-jerking, also?

You should really get that looked at.

Yes, I'm a proud knee jerk bleeding heart liberal.

I know that it is against my best economic interest to support in state tuition since I'll be subsidizing it, but I can't stand the thought of these kids being raised here, working incredibly hard in school for 12 years and then having the door shut in their faces. I guess that makes my heart bleed.
