Vote! Vote! Vote! Vote!

Lots at stake here in Maine:

-- Same-sex marriage

-- Auto Excise tax

-- School consolidation

-- TABOR 2 taxpayer bill of rights

-- Medical pot

-- Transportation Bond issue

-- Constitutional Amendment for signature certification

Plus Mayors, School Councils, and here -- crucial school funding

I voted in Va.

I am astounded that a fairly extreme social conservative will absolutely trounce the Democratic candidate Deeds.

I am a fiscal conservative but have nothing in common with McDonnell's social platforms. Yet I think many pro choice, pro gay marriage (which is a dead letter issue in VA because recognition of same sex marriage would require a Constitutional change), wary of organized religion in politics types are today voting for McDonnell. In fact, the numbers indicate that this just has to be.

I am not sure what it all means, but clearly high tax and big spend policies are under siege in Virginia - a state (Commonwealth), that is historically considered very well run - and a reason for many to live in Virginia over Maryland, which has a more bloated government and a considerably less favorable university system than Virginia. The vote today (and it is a fait accompli) is a confirmation of sorts that Virginians don't want a Maryland, and they sure as heck don't want New Jersey or New York.

I voted yesterday in Maine. I am hoping against hope that the gay marriage law stands. If so, it would be the first in the nation to be subjected to referendum and win.

The marriage equality group has run a superb, positive ad campaign, in contrast to the negative fear-mongering put forth by the anti-equality side.

I devoutly wish that we could make it MUCH more difficult to get an initiative on the ballot. These constant referendums are an enormous waste of resources.

There was nothing particularly important in our election today here in Michigan that I can think of except for a city wide ordnance to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation/identity, but I do not live in the city that it is taking place in.

Consolation, I'm with you.

The overwhelmingly-negative campaign run by Yes on 1 I think backfired. I hope we can demonstrate that Mainers are a "live and let live" bunch, by and large.

Great op/ed by Chellie Pingree in huffpost about this.

All the best,
AM

I voted in VA, even though I don't think any of my candidates have a chance of winning. At least all of the damn commercials will be gone. There's been so much mudslinging in this campaign that just watching an ad (either side) leaves me feeling dirty...

I voted in NJ. It's hard to believe that Corzine has a chance to win. He is just about the worst Governor we have ever had.

I saw a big turnout in my town this morning (suburbs), and I think that is because of the anti-Corzine sentiment in the state. People want him out. And Obama's appearances here just strengthened that resolve, especially in the suburban areas. Christie ran a terrible campaign, but I think Corzine is so disliked that he will lose.

With only 5% of precincts reporting, Maine is standing for equal marriage. Go Maine!!

12% reporting, 53% vote for marriage equality.

Apparently the ignoramuses are winning Lewiston. Not surprising.

That is me. And I voted for McDonnell. I was a Warner supporter, and I voted for Kaine, who I have been 100% unimpressed with. Had to switch. It's rough for me because I don't really fall in line with the parties (fiscal conservative, social liberal), so I have to figure out what is most important and vote on that.

When I was in Williamsburg for homecoming, I saw an ad for the local race there. The ad said "candidate X has voted less than 10% of the time" or something like that. Then, during the next commercial break, candidate X's ad came on, and it said "candidate X has voted 96% of the time". I have no idea what was up, but they should not both be allowed to run those ads. One of them is massively lying / distorting the facts.

I agree Kate (good name btw ).

It is a very sad day for equal rights. One that this not-so-straight female isn't going to forget anytime soon. Ugh. Whoever can vote to take away equal rights... I can't even find the words to describe them.

Yes, Cuse, it's always a good day when discrimination is upheld. Good day indeed.

If you live in NJ and support gay marriage, a woman's right to choose, better education systems, affordable college, the middle class, your out of luck now =/
