Obama better than Bush, Biden better than Cheney

Quote:
Fifty-seven percent say Obama has been a better president than George W. Bush; only a third say Bush's track record was better........The survey also suggests that by 24 points, Americans think that Joe Biden is a better vice president than Dick Cheney.

It is way too soon to make these sorts of claims. This compares President W. at the end of his tenure with President O. near the beginning.

911 would distort comparisons of favorable ratings a year into the respective Presidencies. It took former President W. years of lies, incompetance, and mismanagement to dispel the patriotic fervour of post-911 America.

President O. still has time to be a worse President.

As for comparing vice-Presidents, who cares?

Well I agree Obama is better ... but that is not a very high bar in my opinion ... and unfortunately my grade for Obama keeps sinking and is now not at an unacceptable level ... (I doubt I will rank any other president in my lifetime as low as Bush II).

I agree it is way too soon to make a decision, especially since as BigG said it was the end of Bush's term.

It seems this article was tilted since if they took his ratings in August and ranked them against Bush in August of 01, they would be comparable.

Polls can always be manipulated by the media to drive your position...it's called cherry picking! Unfortunately, too many people will bite off on this as proof of their position/defense without asking one more question...what was Bush's ranking at the same time. To be fair, apples to apples you have to go before 9/11 in this scenario.

Bush had an alright, but not stellar rating at the same time period during his presidency. That was until the day after he claimed "mission accomplished" then it nosedived.

How about comparing Quayle to Gore? (Here's a little trip down memory lane: "I love California . I practically grew up in Phoenix "-- Dan Quayle)

LOL, bigcheese! (just the imagery on that one)

Obama will definately get to be Saint after his rule which will last for awhile with help of Acorn (currently taking care of business in New Jersey), cleanned up Media in "Pravda" style and other undisclosed means. The real fun is still way ahead. Be patient, sit tight, do not fall off vagon, the climb is almost vertical way up to the deepest heights of... you know what, cannot call it real name here because it will cause name calling, so I will call it Obamaism.

Both took over in a recession. One had eight years for another one to happen to him. The other has had eight months. What makes this a fair question to ask?

Now we're comparing Obama to Bush? That's like comparing bad to worse. Well, Susie got a D so my C is just fantastic! How about asking who upheld thier campaign promises? That might be an interesting "fact check" ......

wasn't a poll out a week or so ago that showed that Biden's approval rating is lower than Cheney's at the same time into office?

And don't forget, there can be a difference between poll respondents and voters. Thus, ""Obama's approval rating of 54 percent is nearly identical to the 53 percent of the vote he won a year ago," notes CNN Polling Director Keating Holland." is comparing apples and oranges.

btw: Rassmussen usually tracks voters.

I don't know how people can even rate VP performances. It's a powerless position. My general opinion of Cheney is *much* higher than that of Biden though.

Bush generally had a much easier time getting his policy objectives through than Obama did, so I'd imagine that Bush is likely a better politician. On the only real comparable issues between Obama & Bush, their policy measures have been quite similar (their approach to the wars & economic issues).

Isn't Obama's approval rating at this point lower than almost any modern president (including Bush)? Of course, Biden makes up for him because he is so entertaining-you never know what he's going to say next!

I wonder when these guys are going to figure it out. You can promise us all the government programs possible--they're going to just take care of everything for us, because we're so helpless and stupid we can't possibly look after ourselves. You can BS us with hope and change for only so long. But in the end, none of it matters if I don't have my JOB, and my COMPANY gave that to me, not the government or my union. Until they stop the War on Employers, the approval rating is going to keep sinking. And I'm afraid they will never get it, because the only thing our employers have to look forward to is more taxes.
