Umm, I'm not exactly an Obama fan, but I think it was right for him not to go, given the circumstances with the Fort Hood shootings. I know he talked to the service members and families of Ft. Hood today and the Berlin Anniversary was yesterday, and I guess he probably could have flown back and forth. But you need to put our people first in a tragedy like this.

^^Right. And if he had gone, Beldar would no doubt be posting links to some blog or story criticizing Obama for going off to a celebration in Berlin when he should be home dealing with the Ft. Hood aftermath.

You are assuming Pres. Obama would have attended had the Fort Hood shooting not occurred. Can anyone show that President Obama intended to go to the Berlin wall event in the first place?

I assume that planning would have taken place months ago (to make security arrangements) if he did plan to go.

I am assuming nothing. My point was that no matter what Pres. Obama chose to do, his political critics would have found fault with the choice.

Not really. If Pres. Obama had scheduled to attend the ceremony (as he should have) but then returned after the Fort Hood crisis occurred, no one would have found fault with him. Instead, Obama snubbed a very important friend of America. He did so probably because he did not want to be compared to President Reagan.

I call baloney. I remember what Obama's critics said when he appeared in Germany during the campaign. They would have just trotted out all that stuff again. On another thread, people are criticizing his wife's dress at the Fort Hood ceremony.

The Telegraph is a right-leaning publication?
