How to transfer a B&N Nook to someone else?

Now that I have an iPad, my B&N Nook is basically obsolete. I'd like to give to a friend for her elderly mother -- does anyone know how to erase it / set up a new account for someone else? What I'm finding online is not helpful.

Does B&N have an 800 number at their website?

I just got a Nook for my birthday and I've read about 100 pages of the 160 page Users guide. I think there is a place to unregister your nook from your B&N account. Then return to factory settings. It might have been under the category of selling your Nook. Good luck!
