Simon's set-up was different. No celebrity co-judge. Ego???
They said at the beginning that Simon's co-judge was supposed to be Mariah Carey but her plane was grounded because of Hurricane Irene. No word on whether she'd be joining him later.

I haven't watched since the night that the crazy audition guy turned me off but I saw last night's show. A few comments.

Those were not live performances. The vocals were obviously recorded and blended for the telecast. No sound equipment, no matter the quality, is going to be able to produce live outdoor sound like that.

performersmom, Simon explained that he had planned for Mariah Carey but Hurricane Irene had grounded her plane and she couldn't arrive in time so he chose to go forward and coach them himself.

I had heard from a few friends that Stacy Francis was getting a little tiresome with the 'woe is me, no one believed in me' schtick. This woman was a Broadway actor for years. Someone obviously believed in her and she had no problem booking work.

DH and I thought it was funny that some of the performers were saying "when I win the five million dollars I will live in a house like this". Let's see one house was in Malibu, one was in East Hampton, one was in the south of France and on was in Santa Barbara. Five million won't buy you much. We have lots of residential clients in Santa Barbara. Five million might get you through the first year by the time you guy, maintain, hire the staff needed and pay your property taxes.
DHs family has property in East Hampton. It's about the same there. And somehow I really doubted they were in their homes. Maybe on the outside patios and using the maids bathroom or a porta potty.

One of our favorite hobbies is to visit our friends in those huge homes. On the way home we calculate their mortgage payment and property taxes and upkeep. We sigh with relief when we get back to our own driveway.

Well, I am quickly getting bored with XFactor. I watched last night and think things are moving so slowly, it's like molasses. I don't know how many more stories I can listen to. They are really dragging it out.

The auditions did seem very canned, I hated the singers using tracks.

Not sure if this show is going to make it. I'm still waiting for something new to happen that makes it stand out from all of the other reality singing shows. and I had such high hopes for the show when it started.

And the $5m is the retail price for a recording contract. They'll get the wholesale version.

Wow - Just singing "the first time ever I saw your face". Gave me goosebumps. Loved him. I'd go see him in concert.

Very uneven groups. Most girls are good and most boys are awful. Simon has tough choices, but LA a problem to find the ones worth keeping. Over thirty selection will probably be a joke, unless they overlook the sad stories, but that is doubtful.

Yes, I think Josh is my favorite over 30. As long as he makes it, I don't care which other 3 they put through. My favorite girls are Drew, Jazzlyn, Caitlin and Melanie; however, I think Simon's favorites are the other four. LOL I'm having a hard time remembering the boys' names. I don't like the little rapper or the rehab guy or the country boy from last week. I'm on the fence about the pretty boy. Speaking of pretty, Enrique is gorgeous!

Oh Gosh! Yes about Enrique!!! I hope he gives a performance at some point... Do you think the mentors will do duets with their contestants?

Simon's vote will be surprising. This is still a weird show. Borderline incoherent.

I caught tonight's special Sunday edition show but hated the disconnect between the outdoor setting with the studio productions so much that I'm not going to even bother watching the Thursday night show that I missed. I think they could have somehow worked in the shots of each judge's home during their deliberations with those assisting them.

The groups tonight were weak. The lead singer of the Stereo Hogzz should have been given an opportunity to become a male soloist instead, since he is the only one who really did/does any singing.

I'm liking little miss Rachel less and less with each passing week. That sassy little swagger has been missing ever since her opening audition because of her song choices. I didn't care for Jazzlyn tonight either but will be a little surprised if this is the end of the road for her. I hope Melanie will make the cut and surprise us with more versatility than she has shown up until now. A makeover sure wouldn't hurt her, either. I love her polish and poise for a 16 year-old.

Besides Josh, I really like Leroy in the over 30 and hope he makes it through to the next round.

I also like Rachel, but agree about song choice. To me, she seems even younger than 13-14, and I have not liked the last two songs she has sung, especially last night. In her defense, I think the judges picked the songs in this past round. I like Leroy, too.
