Here is my dilemma. North Carolina has a 7% tax on lottery winnings. Delaware has no tax. The lump sum is what, $400mm? Should I move to Delaware for $28mm? Seems like it would be worth it. NC of course would try to get their share, but you know, f- em! It was so much easier when I was poor and happy!

^^ Better yet, move to California, which doesn't tax lottery winnings, and use that $28M in savings to buy a fantastic house on the beach in La Jolla, Malibu, Carmel, or someplace. It has much nice weather than either NJ or NC and fantastic views of the Pacific.
Uh-oh - maybe I should buy a ticket.

Bought 2 tickets today, although I don't normally play. D2 (hs junior) wanted to know if she could major in something wildly impractical (she is thinking an English/Studio Art double major) AND if I would pay for her grad school if I win. I said I would. She made me pinky swear.
I recently told co-workers that I stopped buying lottery tickets during my divorce (used to get a $1 PowerBall most times when filled up my tank) because I didn't want to have to share my winnings with my ex. They thought that was funny (don't actually know why!). Never started buying them again, except for today.

Do you get anything if you just have one number? Like the 3 from 23?

Just pi.... Away 40 bucks....should hsve gone out to a mid priced dinner place.
The number 23 came out twice...so my initial thought was...'Who would pick the same number twice?"
But the lottery people say 95 percent of all combinations have been chosen.

Well, I won $2... and that is exactly what I spent on tickets. Broke even. No free grad school for D2, too bad!

But think of the thrill of possibilities and dreams you had for that $40. Me, I just have the $40.

^^ $1 buys the possibilities and dreams and keeps you in the same odds range as spending $40 or $100 or $1000 (all still way less than 1/100 of 1% of a chance of winning).

That's true.
I will probably buy 10 to 20 the next time the jackpot is huge and slowly work myself into buying zero. |
