| How can you tell if someone replies to your posts?
I know about subscribing to a thread, and have done that, but is there a way to know if someone just replies specifically to one of your posts in a thread you aren't subscribed to?
I see people basically having a conversation on a thread and wonder how they know that someone has responded so quickly.
Thanks!

^^^
THere are some people (including myself sometimes I'll admit) whi sit in front of their computer for hours looking and participating frequently in various threads, or one thread, often while they are doing something else. There are also people (myself included sometimes) who obsessively look back at message board threads to see if someone has responded. Particularly when they are involved in an on-line dispute.
I often do this type of thing on Saturday mornings before I get going with something more productive.
There may be a more high tech explanation but I don't use that.

I'm guilty sometimes on the weekends if there's a hot topic. But I'm curious -- how do so many of you manage to be involved in these lively discussions on weekdays?

shoboemom - to keep up on conversations, I click on my user name, then statistics, then "posts by me" ...and that is a quick way to keep up on posts, threads you are in.

Actually, I emailed the webmaster because I havn't been getting emails to threads I have posted on.
When you post and you want to be emailed when someone responds you must click on Post Reply, not Quick Reply and then under the box your respond in there is the option to choose how often you want to be emailed responses. Select instant email or something like that.
Alternatively, if you want to be notified about posts to a thread you are just interested in but do not want to post in, go up to the the top of the lists of posts and you will see two tabs one is -Thread tools- and the other is -Search this thread-.
Click on Thread tools and select subscribe to this thread.
Now I want to know what those price tags that appear next to certain posts on the long list of threads that are active is ?

| Wow, I never knew this. Thanks, Lakemom ! I never even noticed the Post Reply button until you mentioned it. I always thought I had to subscribe to a thread through Thread Tools.

Apparently though something is screwed as I usually always get emails when someone posts but I got one for MD Mom (yes our posts are priceless!) but not for you patsmom.
The webmaster indicated they were looking into it but for now, I just keep my eye open on my red stars to see what is going on in the threads I post in.

How do you really know someone is replying to YOU when they post on the thread??? I would thing they would use the PM (private message) system when they wanted to carry on a conversation. Otherwise it is for everyone and you would look for the thread you posted on to see where things are going. In other words, I don't get the problem. If you active on a thread, pay attention to it (those red stars tell you where you have posted - even if months ago and only once).

| I think that means the thread is tagged. For example, if you click on a page of the thread “Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support” and you scroll to the bottom of the page, you’ll notice a Tag area which shows the thread has the ff. tags: health, over 9000!!, twisted panties. College Confidential - FAQ: General Forum Usage Quote:
Tags are a useful way to search for threads with similar subject matter and content. This complements the normal search system, which searches only for certain words or phrases and/or posts by specific users.
To use tags, you add words or phrases to threads to help describe the content. For instance, if the subject matter is 'photography' then you can add the tag 'photography' to the tag list. But you could also add tags like 'digital image', and 'camera' (depending, of course, on the nature of the thread). This will categorize this thread with all other threads that have matching tags, whether or not they have the word 'photography' in them. Who adds the tags?
Tags are initially added to threads by the user who started the thread. Other users may also be able to add and remove tags. How do I use tags?
Tags are displayed in a box near the bottom of a thread page. Clicking on a tag will allow you to view other threads that have the same tag - and which may be related. Clicking on the word 'Tags' in the top of the box will take you to an overview page with a 'tag cloud.' This cloud allows you to see which tags are the most popular - the larger the word, the more times it has been used on threads within the board. There is also another tag cloud on the advanced search page that shows you the tags that have been searched for (or clicked on) the most.
